With a helpless sigh, Richard could only bend down to meet her eyes, slowly shaking his head. “What happened here?” he asked, his voice low.
“Dad, do you not believe me?” Lydia’s voice trembled. “I know everyone’s been worried about Zina since she just got back. I’m willing to give her my place. Even if she really doesn’t want me living here with the Lamberts, I can move out.”
She lowered her head, her eyes already brimming with tears, looking even more pitiful than before.
Richard sighed deeply, trying to help Lydia to her feet. But before he could steady her, she grabbed onto him. so tightly that she almost pulled him down with her.
