Richard Lambert’s gaze steadied, and when he looked at Kellan again, there was a hint of admiration in his
eyes.
He finally picked up the cup of coffee that had been sitting untouched, taking a small sip before continuing. “You’re quite capable. But you know my daughter has only just come back to us, and now you’re already eager to marry her.”
Kellan said, “You can rest easy, Mr. Lambert. I’m the one in charge of the Carter family now. Even after Zina marries into our family, no one will ever make her suffer.
“Not to mention, she has the entire Lambert family backing her up, right? Even if you don’t trust me, you should trust your own family.”
Kellan kept that easy smile on his face the whole time, meeting Richard’s gaze with calm confidence.
The confidence in Kellan’s eyes was so steady that, for a split second, even Richard couldn’t help but waver.
But after a few seconds, Richard took another sip of his coffee. “No need to rush. Maybe she’s just playing around right now, and in a few days, she might not even care. When that happens, just don’t push her, alright?”
Kellan nodded respectfully, “Don’t worry, Mr. Lambert. I’ll always support whatever Zina chooses.”
Even Richard had to admit that Kellan was truly a man of real ability. He had already been as blunt as possible, but Kellan hadn’t shown the slightest sign of anger. That kind of composure wasn’t something just anyone could manage.
“Then I’ll be waiting,” Richard said, leaving things open–ended as he smoothly changed the subject. “Perhaps I can lend a hand with the Carter family’s real estate business. I might be able to help there.”
Kellan was taken aback. He tried to read Richard’s eyes. But all he saw was the detached, seasoned look of a man who’d spent years in the business world. “Thank you, Mr. Lambert.”
They walked out of the study one after the other. Richard still wore a thoughtful expression, though there was a trace of relief. Kellan, on the other hand, seemed far more at ease.
But just as they had taken a few steps, someone suddenly ran up to them, stopping right in front of Richard. “Mr. Lambert, there’s some trouble in the living room. They need you over there.”
Richard frowned, a bad feeling creeping up on him, but he forced himself to stay calm. He gave Kellan a quick explanation before heading downstairs to the living room.
At the stairway, Richard finally understood why the messenger had looked so nervous. The once harmonious living room was now sharply divided.
Zina was standing on one side with a man who seemed to be quite close to her, while his other daughter, Lydia, was on the opposite side.
The other guests looked like they were just waiting for some drama, some already whispering among
