Chapter 129
“Kaia, this is the coffee you like. I bought it for you myself. Samantha said.
Kaia stroked Samantha’s head and said, “What a good girl!” In response, Samantha smiled ingratiatingly.
Ruth frowned. “Miss Crawford, I am supposed to say nothing, but I like to warn you for the sake of Mr. Crawford. Kaia is a poor boxer, so don’t get deceived.”
Samantha turned her head and glared at Ruth. “A poor boxer? Have you ever seen her in the ring?”
After a moment of silence, Ruth answered, “No. However, she grew up in the countryside and had no good training, so how can she be a good boxer?”
“I see. Samantha drawled out.
“L.” Ruth was lost for words..
Samantha added, “How can you call her a poor boxer when you are completely ignorant of her performance in the ring? Just because she grew up in the countryside?
“Is your foster daughter, Andrea, accomplished because you raised her?”
Ruth kept her mouth shut because Samantha touched her sore spot.
Penny clapped her hands. “Well said!”
Ruth didn’t have the guts to offend Samantha, so she gave Penny a hard look.
She said, “Miss Sharp, by a stroke of luck, you got the project from K&B. The Sharp family will fall back into their place when the project is over. Stay away from Kaia, or you will feel regretful one day.”
Penny stole a glance at Kaia. In her opinion, her family could soar high as long as she stuck with Kaia. “Mrs. Bennett, it is you, not me. Just wait and see.”
She thought, “Kaia is a good friend of Conrad, and she is Tobias‘ girlfriend. The Bennett family will regret their hostility toward Kaia once they find that out.
“How ungrateful! What a waste of my breath!” Ruth said through her gritted teeth. Right then, a familiar face caught her attention.
Joel! It’s Joel!‘ she thought. Excited, she looked at Lincoln and said, “Honey, it’s Joel! I once saw him at Dr. Bennett’s launch event about new nanomaterials. I didn’t expect to see him here”
“Why do you sound surprised? This is the annual auction in Morganburg. It is understandable for him to be here,” Lincoln spoke as his gaze followed Joel. It seemed Joel was walking towards Lincoln.
With a plan in his mind, Lincoln quickly rose to his feet and hurried towards Joel. “Mr. Graham, nice to meet you, I am the general manager of the Bennett Group, and my name is…”

As he spoke, Kellan’s clear, sharp eyes and calm smile gave off a quiet, refined elegance. It was hard to deny that he resembled Patrick Carter in so many ways,
Yvonne forced a smile, but it lacked warmth. “Just put it away. That was thoughtful of you. Richard will be back soon, and we’ll have dinner shortly. I’ll have someone start getting everything ready in the kitchen
With that, Yvonne left quickly, not even sparing Zina a glance.
Once she entered the kitchen, Yvonne released the tension in her hands, looking at her wrinkled clothes. She sighed deeply, clearly lost in her thoughts.
Kellan was indeed a Carter through and through. He had the same dignity and refinement as his father. But Kellan was much older than Zina.
If the two families really did end up connected by marriage, there’d definitely be more trouble down the line. But she had no way to refuse.
Yvonne felt like she was completely shutting down. She just kept her head down, absentmindedly tearing at the leaves beside her.
Just then, Kali, the cook, came in. When she saw what Yvonne was doing, she couldn’t help but let out a startled yelp. “Mrs. Lambert, what are you doing? Why are you throwing out all this good food? Go and take a rest. I’ll handle everything here.”
Kali quickly grabbed the cabbage from Yvonne’s hands, relieved that she’d managed to stop her. She looked at Yvonne with sympathy.
“Mrs. Lambert, please go get some rest. Mr. Lambert already told me to handle dinner tonight. I promise I’ll keep an eye on everything.” Kali assured her.
Kali gave her chest a hearty thump, looking a little comical in her effort to cheer Yvonne up.
Even though Yvonne was still feeling down, she couldn’t help but laugh at Kali’s antics. “Alright, I won’t your way. I’ll head back to my room. Let me know if you need anything.”
get in
Yvonne left the kitchen under Kali’s watchful gaze, letting out a long sigh and shaking her head.
Back in the living room, only Zina and Kellan remained. Neither of them spoke, and the air was thick with
awkward tension.
“You…” Zina hesitated before turning around. But as soon as she met Kellan’s eyes, she quickly turned back, shaking her head in embarrassment.
‘Seriously, this is just way too weird, Zina thought. “What’s up with Kellan today? If this were before, there’s no way he’d suddenly start trying to please me like this, right? Am I just overthinking this? Or is there something else going on?

Before Lincoln finished his self–introduction. Joel ignored him and walked past him. How embarrassing! Out of the corner of his eye, Lincoln noticed the subtle gazes from others and heard people talking
“Lincoln overestimated himself. That is Mr. Graham.”
“To Mr. Graham, the Bennett Group is nothing. Even I don’t have the courage to strike up a conversation with him.”
“Mr. Graham did the right thing. If everyone here addresses to him like Lincoln, he won’t have a moment of peace. Lincoln has himself to blame now.” People talked on and on.
Lincoln blushed with embarrassment and shame. It was difficult for a family like the Bennetts to link themselves with Joel. Lincoln was clear about that, but he still wanted to give it a try.
When he was lost in his thoughts, Joel took the seat right behind Kaia.
“How lucky Kaia is! Mr. Graham is right behind her. What an honor to her!” Lincoln sighed enviously.
Andrea opened her mouth but said nothing in the end. She had long known that Kaia and Joel were good friends. For all the love of the Bennett couple, she kept the information to herself.
Looking back, Andrea believed that Joel had deliberately chosen the seat behind Kaia.
Penny shook Kaia’s arm excitedly. “Joel! It’s Joel! Oh my god! I finally saw him. So excited!” She did sound thrilled.
Kaia looked at Penny with surprise. “You don’t even box. Why are you so excited?”
Penny looked at Kaia in shock and asked, “Kaia, are you okay? Why can’t I be excited?
“Do I have to box? He’s the king of boxing. More importantly, he’s one of the top ten eligible bachelors in Morganburg. He is strong, handsome, and manly.”
Kaia got the meaning between the lines. A smile appeared on her face as she gazed at Penny’s excited face. “You fall for him, don’t you?”
Instantly, Penny’s face turned red. “Nonsense! Come on! I… I just admire him. Yes, I admire him.”
“Is that so? Why are you blushing?” Kala teased.
“I’m not,” Penny insisted.
“Oh, I was thinking about introducing you to him. Well, it saves me the trouble,” Kaia said.
Penny’s eyes became wide open in an instant. “You…. Do you mean you are acquainted with him?”
Kaia nodded with a smile. “Yeah.”
“You, are you kidding me? How did you get acquainted with him?” Penny didn’t believe Kaia at that moment.
Her mind was a tangled mess. After a few moments, she turned around and glanced at him again, but this time, Kellan was already staring back at her. Their eyes met, and the awkwardness between them intensified.
Zina quickly turned away, her face flushing. “Well, actually, it’s nothing. That necklace must’ve been really
expensive. Should I pay you back for it?”
“No need,” Kellan said, shaking his head. “It was always meant as a gift for Mrs. Lambert. Besides, it’s just the proper thing to do. But right now, we need to talk about how we’re going to deal with Mr. Lambert.”
“Believe it or not, I will invite him to dine with us after the auction,” Kaia said.
Penny stared at Kaia for quite a while, and Kaia calmly accepted her scrutiny.
“You, do you really know Joel?” Penny still sounded uncertain.
“You’ll know after the auction, Kaia said mysteriously.
Penny then shifted her gaze from Kaia to Joel. ‘Why didn’t he come and say hi to you if you two are acquaintances? You didn’t greet him either. You two seem like strangers to each other.”
“I don’t want to be the focus of attention, Kaia explained.
