Chapter 133
“What?” Kaia cleared out her ear and sneered. “Gideon spent 300 million dollars on this ginseng, and you want to buy it from me with 20 thousand dollars. Mrs. Bennett, are you in your right mind?”
Penny and Samantha exchanged a glance with each other.
Ruth was fuming with rage. “Too little for you? Don’t you know that Andrea’s grandfather is severely ill? This ginseng can save a man. I am not asking you to gift it to me. I am offering you 20 thousand dollars. It is a reasonable deal, isn’t it?”
Ruth was horrible, and so was Lincoln. That was why Kaia had left the Bennett family decisively and kept a distance from them.
“Damn it! How outrageous! Kaia, I am sorry. I can’t keep my mouth shut anymore. She is a horrible woman.” Angered, Samantha patted her chest to calm herself down.
This comment made Ruth blush. “Miss Crawford, I respect you because of your grandfather, and it doesn’t give you the right to offend me.”
Samantha put her hands on her hips. “Come on! Shouldn’t you reflect on yourself? Does the sickness of Andrea’s grandfather have anything to do with Kaia? Is Kaia obligated to help you?
“Mrs. Bennett, let me ask you. Would you offer Mr. Fowler 20 thousand dollars if this ginseng were in his hand instead of Kaia’s? Did you have the guts to?”
Ruth pursed her lips, and her eyes became bloodshot.
“You
didn’t! You wouldn’t make such a ridiculous proposal to anyone, let alone to Mr. Fowler. In other words, you deliberately pick on Kaia. You don’t see her as your daughter, and you spare no effort to rob her.
“Before this auction, I didn’t know that there were heartless mothers like you. I feel terribly sorry for Kaia who has an evil mother like you,” Samantha lashed out at Ruth.
Penny clapped her hands to show her sincere support to Samantha.
Ruth was furious, but she didn’t dare to offend Samantha for the future of the Bennett family.
She could do nothing to Samantha, but there was Kaia, “Kaia, this is between us. I take a step back, so 30 thousand dollars for your ginseng.
Kaia had a cold look in her eyes, and her tone was emotionless. “No. You want the ginseng, don’t you? My advice is to call the police. The police may side with you after they learn that you want to get my ginseng worth 300 million dollars with 30 thousand dollars.”
“You…” In a fit of anger, Ruth wished to give Kaia two slaps.
Samantha gave Kaia a thumbs–up. “Kaia, well done.”
Frowning, Kaia sighed. “Do you really think so? To break with my real mother?”
Leo knew exactly what the Turner family was planning. He had just let his emotions get the better of him for a moment, which was why things had ended up like this.
He had actually wanted to go along with the Turner family’s plans–otherwise, he wouldn’t be here.
ruth.
“There’s definitely no misunderstanding.” Yvonne replied with a forced smile. “If you want to know ti you should ask Leo himself. He’s a good kid, and if the Turner family faces any difficulties, I’m sure he’ll hold things together.”
Yvonne clearly wasn’t interested in continuing the conversation, but Lana, pretending not to get the hint, pressed on.
“No matter what, Leo is my son. As his mother, I want him to find someone he truly loves. He was just blinded before and couldn’t see clearly. If there’s a chance, Yvonne, I’d really appreciate it if you could guide him a bit. Right, Leo?” Lana said.
Lana walked over to Leo and dragged him in front of Yvonne. Still smiling sweetly, Lana’s words forced Leo to bow his head in humiliation. “Leo, apologize to Mrs. Lambert for what happened before.”
Leo was practically shoved forward. As he looked up in shock, he met Yvonne’s displeased gaze. He clenched. his fists tightly, his lips moving as if he wanted to speak, but sweat trickled down his face, and his whole body trembled.
Lana, still not hearing what she wanted, urged him on. “Leo, didn’t you say you wanted to apologize? Why are you silent now? Don’t worry, Mrs. Lambert is a reasonable person. If you admit your mistake, she’ll forgive you.”
Lana’s subtle hints were clear to Yvonne. She finally saw through Lana’s true intentions. The last bit of affection she had for Lana disappeared the moment Leo spoke.
Leo’s hands shook uncontrollably, and he stammered, “Mrs. Lambert…”
“It’s alright, Leo. Don’t worry about it. I was the one who misunderstood you kids and tried to play matchmaker. From now on, I just want Zina to follow her heart, Yvonne said.
Seeing Yvonne’s expression harden and understanding she didn’t want to continue the conversation, Lana quickly changed the subject. “Well, I suppose we can’t force them together. But I did hear something about Leo and Lydia…”
At this, Yvonne’s face went pale, and her voice became stiff as she responded, “These things should really be left to the kids themselves. We’re the parents–we shouldn’t meddle too much.”
“Yes, you’re right,” Lana replied quickly, not daring to say anything more. But her forced smile was now completely stiff, and even her attempt at politeness was awkward.
The anger Lana had been holding in was now directed at Leo.
Leo knew exactly how this would go. He kept his head down, not daring to meet his mother’s gaze.
His shirt was stuck to his back with sweat, and he felt terrible, but he didn’t dare move. He glanced up at Zina,

Samantha moved her lips, but she didn’t utter a word in the end. How pathetic for Kaia to have such a mother! Kaia must feel sad and indignant even if she seemed calm…
“No matter how outstanding Kaia is, she is just a human… Samantha thought,
Tobias felt sadness and disappointment from Kaia’s speech, so his heart ached. ‘What a poor girl! he thought. He then held Kaia’s hand.
Kaia turned her head to Tobias. Before she opened her mouth, he said, “Don’t. I want to hold your hand for a
while.
Like enchantment, his speech warmed her heart. Looking at his hard look, she felt secure.
Independent and self–reliant, Kaia didn’t need security from others. At that moment, she felt pretty good.
Ruth felt slighted by Kaia, so she roared, “Kaia, last call, Will you sell me the ginseng or not? If you don’t, I will call your parents in the countryside and tell them how heartless you are.”
Kaia was finally irritated. “My parents brought me up, took good care of me during my sickness, and gave me a birthday gift each year. How dare you cause trouble for them! If you disturb them, I will ruin the Bennett family. I am as good as my word.”
“Oh, listen to you! Who do you think you are? To ruin the Bennett family?” Ruth snorted.
Right then, Gideon’s voice sounded, “Miss Bennett, I can wipe out the Bennett family as long as you give me the word. I promise that you won’t see the Bennett family in Morganburg tomorrow.”
Ruth was scared to death. Aghast, Lincoln got to his feet and said, “Mr. Fowler, please show us some mercy. My wife was out of her mind.”
“Was she? She seems shrewd to me. To buy the ginseng, which cost me 300 million dollars, with 20 thousand dollars. What a bargain!” Gideon had a wry smile on his face.
“I’m sorry for her boldness. I will let her apologize to you.” Then, Lincoln urged Ruth to give Gideon an apology.
Without hesitation, Ruth said, “I am sorry, Mr. Fowler. I didn’t mean it. I was so worried about my father–in- law that I lost my mind.
Gideon ignored the Bennett couple, looked at Kaia, and asked, “Miss Bennett, what do you say?”
The hearts of the Bennett couple skipped a beat. At that moment, Kaia could change the future of the Bennett family with just one sentence.
The Bennett family didn’t understand why Gideon helped Kaia.
They wondered, ‘Is Gideon Kaia’s sugar daddy? It doesn’t seem so. Kaia and Tobias sit together, hand in hand. Gideon must have noticed that, and he shows no objection or anger.
‘So, what is the relationship between Gideon and Kaia? Why does he side with her?”
Finally, Lana couldn’t keep up the act any longer. She put on a forced smile and just listened as Yvonne spoke. no longer even pretending to include her in the conversation.
Realizing that Yvonne had become distant, Lana finally couldn’t take it anymore. “It’s getting late, isn’t it? Maybe we should head back now,” she said.
“Alright, take care on your way home,” Yvonne said with a polite smile.
With Yvonne’s calm gaze following them, Lana dragged Leo out, making a hasty exit.
Kain looked at Ruth and Lincoln listlessly. “I don’t want to hear any harsh words about my parents. You will have yourselves to blame if you don’t know what is good for yourselves.”
Lincoln and Ruth felt indignant, but they could do nothing to Kain.
After the farce, the auction went on. Later, the last item caused a stir.
