Chapter 135
Yvonne stood frozen, staring at Zina in complete disbelief. Zina was her daughter, the one connected to her by blood. Yet, at that moment, she felt like she was looking at a total stranger.
She had never imagined that the secret she’d kept hidden for so long would come to light now, of all times.
Seeing that Yvonne remained silent, Zina didn’t want to pressure her too much. She asked softly, “Am I asking too much? It’s fine. We don’t have to use the Bradley family’s security team.”
“No, I was just surprised you knew about the security team,” Yvonne said, quickly shaking her head at Zina, her curiosity intensifying.
Zina scratched her head, a little embarrassed. “It’s a long story, but I’ll keep it brief. When I was staying with the Sinclair family. I overheard some things about the four major families. So, I quietly did a little digging”
Seeing that Yvonne was completely buying it, Zina couldn’t help but feel that Yvonne was too naive. Looking at Yvonne’s innocent and clueless expression, Zina didn’t know whether to feel happy or worried.
“Is that all?” Yvonne pressed, still trying to get more out of her.
But Zina looked so innocent that Yvonne couldn’t bring herself to press further. She let it go, even though her curiosity was still burning inside.
After a long pause, Yvonne sighed. “Honestly, I would love to help you, but you know how things are with the Bradley family right now.
“The security team hasn’t been used in ages. Years ago, to save money, they all retired. Getting them together now is a bit of a hassle.” Yvonne blinked, looking completely innocent.
Zina was a bit dazed. For some reason, the word “retired” felt strangely fitting. It was like she had heard it somewhere before.
“I see. I guess I didn’t think that through,” Zina nodded. “I’ll figure something else out later.”
But to her surprise, Yvonne suddenly continued, “Give me about three days, and I can have them ready for
you.”
“Didn’t you say they were retired?” Zina asked, her eyes widening in disbelief.
Yvonne just looked at Zina like she was the strange one. “They might be retired, they’re scattered all over. I just need to make a few calls. Some of them are overseas, so it’ll take a bit more time–three days should be enough, Yvonne smiled as she spoke.
Zina blinked, momentarily stunned, but quickly snapped back to reality. Yvonne actually made sense. Zina had overcomplicated things.
“Alright, let’s head back and get some rest. It’s getting late,” Yvonne said, breaking the silence.
Just as she finished speaking, a thought suddenly struck her and she frowned. “That’s odd–where did your dad take Kellan earlier? It’s been a while, and they’re still nowhere to be seen,” she said, sounding a bit
