Chapter 137
Seeing the serious look on Zina’s face, Kellan couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
“What’s so funny?” Zina’s frown deepened, and there was a clear hint of annoyance in the way she looked at him.
Kellan quickly wiped the smile off his face and said slowly, “You looked really cute just now. Alright, let’s down to business.”

Thrown off by Kellan’s teasing, Zina lowered her head for once, but no matter how she tried, she couldn’t hide the flush spreading across her ears.
After a brief pause, Zina raised her head, placed her fingers on her lips, and cleared her throat twice before speaking seriously again. “Alright, I have something to ask you,” she said.
“Go ahead,” Kellan replied. Zina’s serious demeanor had an unexpected effect on Kellan. He found himself nervously flexing his fingers, a bit surprised by the unease he felt.
Zina, however, was too focused on her own thoughts to notice his reaction.
“If I’m not mistaken, Kyle’s disappearance means one of two things, either he’s laying low to make a big move, or someone is holding him back.
“And as for why he agreed to leave the Carter family business, I want to know what’s really going on. You know the details, or maybe you’re the one pulling the strings, right?” Zina asked.
Her gaze was so intense that Kellan didn’t immediately respond. Instead, he fell into a brief silence.
Zina, growing impatient, prodded, “There’s something you’re not telling me, isn’t there?”
Kellan finally snapped out of it and shook his head without thinking.
Meeting her gaze, he slowly spoke, his lips pressed together. “It’s not as simple as you think. Taking over the Carter family business was only natural. My dad is still in good health, so he’s still in charge.
“Kyle had already made too many enemies with his actions. My stepping in was simply to calm things down. This isn’t about me deciding to take over–it’s about whether the mess Kyle created can be fixed.
“So, do you get it now? Kyle’s former fiancée.”
Kellan looked at her with a playful smile, his eyes open and sincere, yet laced with complex emotions. For a moment, Zina was left at a loss for words.
After a long silence, Zina finally came to her senses. She pressed her lips together and said, “I understand. But now that the Carter family business is in your hands, that complicates things for me.”
She had planned to use this opportunity to take care of the Sinclair family and, while she was at it, deal with Kyle. But now, dealing with him would have to wait.
