Chapter 138
The moonlight spilled across the ground, making everything seem a little brighter. A chilly breeze swept through, occasionally ruffling the hair of passersby, making the moonlit shadows even more hazy.
In the quiet, Zina hung up the phone and stared at it, a little lost in thought.
‘Looks like there’s nothing to worry about at the Base,’ she thought. ‘Now, all that’s left is to deal with the Sinclair family‘
Zina pressed her lips together and narrowed her eyes slightly, then turned back toward the villa.
The Lambert family was still calm and peaceful, while the Sinclair family was in chaos.
“What the hell is going on? Didn’t you say Zina was terrified of you and would do anything for us? Then what happened?” Kevin shouted. He yanked at his shirt collar and tore off his tie in frustration, his face twisted in barely contained rage.
Rosie shrank into the corner, her mouth agape in shock, her eyes wide with fear.
“I… I don’t know. I don’t know how this happened. She set me up. She promised me everything before, and now I don’t understand how it turned into this,” Rosie stammered, shaking her head desperately.
“Dad, maybe we should figure out what’s going on first? I really don’t know what happened. Maybe something went wrong along the way?” Rosie suggested.
Her words calmed Kevin down a bit, though he was still frowning. He pulled out his phone and tapped a few times, his gaze growing colder.
“Something’s wrong. I can’t reach Andy,” Kevin said in a low, tense voice. After several failed attempts to get through, Kevin finally understood.
But Rosie still didn’t believe it. She kept repeating, “No, this can’t be right. Zina was scared of me back then- she even begged me not to give those things to the Lambert family. How could she change her mind so suddenly?”
“You fool! She tricked you!” Kevin snapped. “When has she ever been afraid of anyone? She was just acting scared to make you think she’d care about us, so you’d let your guard down.”
Kevin threw his phone on the floor, his chest heaving with anger as he struggled to control himself.
Rosie was completely stunned. “What should I do?” she whispered.
“What should we do? What else can we do!” Kevin roared. He slapped her hard across the face, and Rosie’s mind went totally blank. His eyes grew even redder with rage as he watched Rosie fall hard to the floor.
“Dad, I know I was wrong. Please don’t do this. I still have to go out this afternoon,” Rosie pleaded.
