Chapter 144
The scene fell into a deep silence, so quiet it was almost cerie. Hayden pressed his lips together–even he was starting to feel nervous.
‘So, is it really Zina who’s making even me nervous?‘ he thought. ‘No wonder even Kellan got tripped up by her.‘
Hayden quickly shook his head, trying to shake off those thoughts, and forced a smile back onto his face.
“Zina, I haven’t seen you in ages. Things are quiet at the hospital today, so why don’t you come take a walk with me?” Hayden asked.
“The hospital?” Zina frowned, sensing there was something off about Hayden’s words. It almost felt like he was testing her for something. But as far as she knew, there was nothing about her that would be worth probing.
Just then, Kellan chimed in. “If you don’t have other plans, we could go take a look. Besides patients, there are actually quite a few interesting things at his hospital.”
Realizing Kellan was about to reveal more than he wanted, Hayden’s face immediately turned red with embarrassment. He quickly waved his hands, trying to stop Kellan from saying anything more.
Kellan shrugged, deciding to let Hayden save face. He then turned to Zina with a gentle smile. “So, what do you think? I could show you his private office. I remember you’re interested in medicine, right? He has a few rare books there that you might enjoy.”
Hayden kept hinting for him to stop, but Kellan ignored him, casually offering all of Hayden’s prized possessions to Zina without a second thought.
When Zina’s eyes lit up with interest, Kellan finally allowed himself to smile.
But compared to Zina, Hayden’s expression was far more entertaining. Along with the pain of losing something valuable, there was also a hint of happiness, creating such a stark contrast that it made him look a little ridiculous.
In the end, Zina nodded.
It was as if Hayden Kellan and had reached a silent understanding. Kellan ushered both Zina and Hayden into the car.
Throughout the ride, Hayden kept silent, his gaze lingering on Zina with a hint of curiosity in his eyes.
When Zina shifted in her seat, Hayden turned his head away so quickly that Zina couldn’t help but glance over, pretending she hadn’t seen anything.
After a few seconds, Zina closed her eyes and pretended to nap. The car swayed gently as it moved, and before long, Zina had actually drifted off to sleep.
When Kellan finally stopped the car and glanced over at her, he noticed Zina leaning against the window, her brow slightly furrowed, as though lost in an unpleasant thought.
