Chapter 111

Griffin was full of resentment, but he was still a little afraid of his cousin Tobias.
Watching Tobias step towards him again, Griffin felt a burst of fear.
“I’m sorry, Miss Bennett. I’m really sorry. I promise I’ll never dare to do it again.”
Griffin quickly apologized, but didn’t kneel.
“I said, kneel.” Tobias looked down at Griffin, his tone icy and exuding a chilling coldness.

Griffin was terrified, but he couldn’t bring himself to apologize to Kaia, a country bumpkin, in public.
“Tobias, I’ve already apologized to her. Can’t we just let it go?”
Tobias narrowed his dark, deep–set eyes, a dangerous glint flashing within.
“Let it go? She is my future wife. You bully your future sister–in–law. Do you think I can let this go easily? My patience is limited. I’ll give you one last chance: kneel or not?”
Griffin was about to explode. With so many friends watching, and a crowd gathered at the door, if he really knelt down to Kaia today, he might never be able to show his face outside again.
“Okay.” Tobias coldly uttered a word, “I understand. Tomorrow I will have someone send you away from Morganburg, and you are not allowed to return for ten years.”
Griffin’s eyes widened instantly, and he shouted sharply, “Tobias, are you so heartless? Do you know you’re favoring an outsider? I’m your cousin! How can you drive me out of Morganburg for an insignificant outsider and not let me come back for ten years!”
“Insignificant outsider? As far as I’m concerned, compared to Kaia, you are the insignificant outsider.” Tobias’s words fell into Kaia’s heart, and ripples spread again in her calm heart.
“Tobias, are you really going to kick me out of Morganburg? Did you discuss this with my parents?” Griffin asked, clenching his fists.
“As the head of the Moreno family, do I need to discuss this with your parents?” Tobias’s voice was calm, yet it still conveyed a sense of overbearing authority.
Griffin was really anxious, but there was no way he was going to kneel down to Kaia right now. He could only go home first and discuss countermeasures with his parents. He refused to believe that his grandfather would kick his own grandson out of Morganburg for the sake of Kaia.
Thinking of this, Griffin’s confidence instantly surged.
“You two, help me up.”
Griffin instructed the two people next to him to help him up and walk outside.

“Okay, I understand,” Zina replied, her fingers tightening around her phone, which suddenly felt hot in her
hand.
‘No wonder Chris had messaged me earlier, saying he’d found something new and would be using some people from the Base. So that was it,‘ she thought.
She closed her eyes, and a rush of adrenaline surged through her, as if it ignited every fiber of her being. When Zina slowly opened her eyes again, they were burning with a new, determined light.
*****
Back at the Lambert Villa, Zina kept to herself these past few days. She shut out the outside world, holed up in her room, and didn’t step out at all.
After lunch, Yvonne watched as Zina hurried off again. She finally gave in and called the maid over. “Has Zina really not come out of her room at all these past few days?”
“That’s right, ma’am. Except for meals, she won’t let any of us anywhere near her room,” the maid replied, head lowered, her voice reverent.
The silence from upstairs lingered, and the maid stayed perfectly still, waiting. It wasn’t until a heavy sigh finally broke the quiet that she quickly looked up.
“Never mind,” Yvonne said with a sigh. “Just keep a close eye on her these days. Remind her to eat properly. Even if she’s busy, she can’t let her health suffer.”
Yvonne frowned, but she could only shake her head helplessly.
After glancing up at the stairs and hesitating for a while, Yvonne finally decided to go upstairs and check on Zina herself.
Zina’s door was shut tight, and there wasn’t a sound from inside.
Yvonne bit her lower lip. After a few seconds, she finally knocked on Zina’s door.
As each second dragged by with no sign of movement inside, Yvonne instinctively clenched the fabric of her dress.
Just when Yvonne was sure no one was coming to the door, there was a soft creak, and the door suddenly opened; Zina stood there, looking utterly exhausted.
“Mrs. Lambert, is there something you need?” Zina asked. She forced herself to ignore the buzzing in her head, doing her best to keep her voice steady.
Yvonne froze for a second, then quickly recovered. “Oh, no, nothing’s wrong. I just wanted to check on you. Are you getting used to living here?
“Some of the staff said you’ve barely left your room these days. Is it because of Lydia?”
“No,” Zina replied, her brows knitting together. She hadn’t expected her situation these past few days to reach Yvonne’s ears.

Chapter 111
Tobias turned his gaze to the two bodyguards, “He can leave, but you can’t.”

Hearing this, the two bodyguards were so scared that their legs trembled, and they almost lost control of their
bowels.
Tobias shifted his gaze from the two bodyguards to the other bodyguards and Josh.
“You all attacked her just now. You dared to attack my woman. Do you think you can leave so easily?”
As soon as he said this, those who had attacked Kaia were frightened.
“Spare us! Mr. Tobias, we were only following Mr. Griffin’s orders! It’s not our fault! Please spare us!”
“Yes, we are all Mr. Griffin’s men. We can only act on whoever he tells us to. We have no choice!”
Josh stepped forward and bowed to Tobias and Kaia.
“Mr. Tobias, I really didn’t expect Miss Bennett to be so important to you. If I had known, even if you gave me a thousand or ten thousand guts, I would never have dared to do it.”
After saying that, Josh looked up and found Tobias looking at him expressionlessly.
Obviously, he was unmoved by what he said.
Josh was also a rising star in the underground boxing scene. While ordinary wealthy families were eager to show him respect, Tobias treated him with complete indifference, which clearly showed how much Kaia meant to him.
Thinking of this, Josh hardened his heart, raised his hand, and slapped himself hard twice in the face.
The two slaps sounded like firecrackers, each delivered with full force.
The private room was so quiet, followed by gasps of cold air.
In this extremely silent environment, before Tobias could say anything, Kaia spoke first.
“Let him go.
Tobias wasn’t too happy. “Just let him off that easily?”
“He has given up the dignity of a warrior; this is already the greatest punishment for him.”
Kaia’s words undoubtedly hit Josh’s heart.
“Thank you, Miss Bennett,”
After Josh gratefully nodded at Kaia, he turned back to look at Griffin. “Mr. Griffin, I have completely paid back the favor you once helped me with. In the future, you take your path and I will take mine. Goodbye.”
After saying that, Josh left without hesitation.

Zina cleared her throat and forced a casual tone. “I just haven’t felt like going out these past few days, and that’s all. It really has nothing to do with Lydia, so you don’t have to worry, Mrs. Lambert.”
Yvonne listened to Zina’s explanation, but she still couldn’t let go of her worries.
Yvonne pressed her lips together, hesitating for a while before finally speaking again. “If anything happens, you have to tell me. As long as you’re in this house, I can stand up for you.”
“I will.” Zina nodded, already running through the timing in her mind. ‘It feels like I’m running out of time, Zina thought, forcing a smile. “I think I’ll go back to my room and get some rest.”
“Alright, alright,” Yvonne replied, but before she could even react, Zina had already nodded and quietly closed the door.
Yvonne stood outside the door, scratching her head. Just as she was about to leave, something didn’t feel right, and she stopped in her tracks.
Yvonne had come here to ask Zina why she’d been holed up in her room these past few days. But now, Yvonne hadn’t found out anything at all and left.
Yvonne frowned, still unable to figure it out even after a long moment, and finally just fell silent again.
Meanwhile, back in her room, Zina furrowed her brows tightly, doing her best to hide the anxiety in her eyes as she stared fixedly at her phone.
It was already more than five minutes past the agreed time, something that had never happened before. Chris was always punctual. Unless something had happened to him, she couldn’t think of any other explanation.
Zina’s face instantly went cold, her lips pressed into a thin line as her heart clenched with tension. She kept refreshing the message screen on her phone, but there was still no response.
Just as Zina was about to put down her phone and head out to investigate, her phone suddenly rang, stopping her in her tracks just as she grabbed her jacket.
When she saw the familiar number on the screen, a wave of relief and emotion nearly brought tears to her eyes. She hurried to answer.
The voice she’d been waiting for finally came through the receiver, making her heart settle a little.
“Boss, everything’s unfolding exactly like you predicted,” Chris said, his tone grave and a little breathless, like he’d just come to a stop. “The ones stirring up panic across the country right now are the same foreign organization we’ve been tracking.
“They’re all from that group. I’m sure they have something bigger planned, but whether they’re targeting the major families in Jorvellan specifically, I can’t say for sure yet.”
“Got it,” Zina said deeply, her eyes turning even colder. Rather than asking Chris to keep digging, she just spoke in a calm, steady voice. “Just come back for now. We’ll talk it all through face–to–face.”

Chapter 111
Griffin stared at Josh’s departing figure with a gloomy face, cursing in his heart.
Of course, most of his curses were aimed at Kaia.
Tobias held Kaia tightly, not wanting to let go even a little bit.
“He can leave, but these bodyguards, even if you plead for them, I will not agree.”

Kaia would be lying if she said she wasn’t even a little touched by the man protecting her so much.
“Do whatever you want.”
“Okay.”
Tobias turned his head to look at Devin and Joel, who had come out later. “I’ll leave the rest to you. I’ll take her to the hospital to get her eyes checked.”
“Yes, Mr. Moreno,” Devin replied.
“No problem, Mr. Moreno.” Joel raised his hand, cracking his knuckles, and walked dangerously towards the bodyguards.
“How dare you attack Dr. Bennett! You can die now!”
Joel threw punch after punch, each one landing solidly, followed by relentless kicks.
Devin had intended to join in, but seeing Joel’s full–force aura and explosive combat power, he found no chance to intervene, and was secretly stunned and amazed.
[What happened to Frank? Why does it feel like he has an irreconcilable hatred towards these bodyguards?]
*****
After Kaia followed Tobias out of the private room, before she could say anything, Tobias swept her up into his arms.
“Don’t talk or open your eyes. You’re not in a good condition right now. I’ll take you to the hospital.”
“I-”
L “Don’t say you don’t need it.” Tobias knew Kaia very well and knew her habits and expressions. “If you don’t
listen, I’ll kiss you like I used to.”
Kaia closed her eyes, and after a few seconds of silence, she nodded slightly.
Tobias felt a mix of affection and slight disappointment at Kaia’s obedience.
If she had continued to struggle and resist him like before, he would have had a reason to shut her mouth
with his.
More than half an hour later, Tobias came out of the hospital with Kaia.
