hen everyone heard Griffin swear so fiercely, they started second–guessing themselves. ‘He’s swearing on his life, so is he lying or not?‘
Enraged, Judith glared at Kaia. “My son has sworn such a vicious oath, and you still refuse to admit. you seduced him!”
Kaia was genuinely surprised that Griffin had the guts to swear like that. But facing this kind of shameless troublemaker, she wasn’t intimidated at all.
“If swearing solved anything, why would we need the police?” she shot back.
“You… You… Even now, you’re still trying to talk your way out of this. Do you think anyone will believe you?” Judith’s chest heaved with anger.
Just then, Joel stepped forward. “I have evidence that Griffin was the one trying to make a move on Miss Bennett.”
Tobias narrowed his keen eyes, sizing up Joel.
“You have evidence? What kind of evidence? Go on, show us! If you really have it, let’s see it! My son is innocent. He’s sworn on his life. I want to see what you can prove today!” Judith retorted.
Joel unlocked his phone and played back the recording from just now.
The audio was crystal clear. Griffin was obviously the one who hit on Kaia first.
Judith fell silent, her mouth hanging open in shock.
Jameson looked like he wanted to disappear from embarrassment.
Griffin shot daggers at Joel, seething with rage. “This damn bodyguard ruined everything!‘ he fumed to himself.
“Ahem!” Keaton walked over, glaring at Griffin. “You little punk! Chasing girls and partying all day is bad enough, but now you even dare to hit on your cousin’s fiancée?”
“Grandpa, I’m sorry! Please forgive me. I just lost my head for a second. Besides, I thought Tobias didn’t even like Miss Bennett. Didn’t you want her to be your granddaughter–in–law? If Tobias doesn’t want her, then I’ll gladly step up!” Griffin said, smugly thinking he was being clever.
Tobias’s face grew even darker.
Keaton smacked Griffin with his cane. “You bastard! Even now, you’re still talking nonsense!”
Griffin howled in pain, but even then, he still wouldn’t give up.

“Grandpa, that’s not fair! Tobias and I are both your grandsons. Why does he get to marry Kaia, but I can’t?” he complained.
“You? Do you even deserve her? Have you even looked at yourself? You’re not even fit to touch a single strand of her hair! If I ever tried to set you up with Kaia, I’d be throwing her straight into the fire!” Keaton snapped.
“Grandpa, how can you say that about me? Kaia was just a top scorer on the SAT, so what?” Griffin shot back, unconvinced.
“Just a top scorer? You don’t know a damn thing!” Keaton barked.
Yeah, yeah, I don’t know a damn thing,‘ Griffin grumbled to himself.
Griffin could tell Keaton was really pissed off, and if he kept arguing, things would only get worse.
Keaton turned to Tobias’s parents. “You two, take him home and teach him a damn lesson. He’s not leaving the house for a month!”
Judith, still fuming and wanting to protest, was cut off by Jameson.
“Let’s just take Griffin home first. We can talk about it later,” he said.
‘Spineless!‘ Judith shot him a withering glare. ‘If it weren’t for that damn bodyguard’s recording, there’s no way she would’ve let this slide today.‘
The banquet ended early thanks to all that drama.
“Damn it! It’s all because of that bodyguard!” Griffin exploded the second he home.

“Mr. Moreno, don’t be mad. How about I round up a few guys to give that bodyguard a real beating?” one of his lackeys suggested.
“Good! Get me a whole crew–beat him to a pulp and cripple him if you have to! And make sure you find the best of the best. Tobias’s bodyguard isn’t easy to handle. Wait, forget bodyguards–go hire some real killers,” Griffin ordered.
“Yes, Mr. Moreno. I’ll get it done right away,” the lackey replied.
Joel was about to get in the car, but Tobias held him back.
“You go back with Devin,” he said.
Joel immediately glanced at Kaia, who shot him a subtle signal.
Their exchange lasted only a split second, but Tobias’s sharp eyes didn’t miss a thing.

“Get in the car,” Tobias said, opening the door.
“Thanks,” Kaia said politely before sliding into the passenger seat.

Joel kept his eyes fixed on the car as it disappeared down the road, only turning away when the taillights faded into the night, a hint of worry lingering in his gaze.
Devin slapped Joel on the back. “Damn, you were quick on your feet today. If it weren’t for whole mess would’ve been a lot harder to deal with.”

“I’m Miss Bennett’s bodyguard. It’s my job,” Joel replied.
“It’s still early. How about we grab a beer?” Devin suggested.
“No, thanks,” Joel said.
“Come on, don’t be so polite. You’re the new guy. I should be looking out for you. Besides, I do admire you. Let’s go!” Devin insisted, pulling Joel along.
Suddenly, Joel stopped in his tracks. Devin halted as well, and the two locked eyes for a moment.
“You noticed it too?” Devin asked.
Joel kept walking. “Don’t let them know we’re onto them.”
“When did you figure it out?” Devin asked, clearly curious. Joel seemed to have spotted the tail
before he did.
“Just now,” Joel replied, knowing exactly what Devin was thinking.
“Do you think they’re after you or me?” Devin asked.
Joel racked his brain, trying to remember if he’d pissed anyone off lately. With all the boxing matches he’d been in, he’d made plenty of enemies.
‘Could it be someone I pissed off at the last International Boxing Competition?‘ he wondered.
As he thought, Joel started walking toward a more secluded area.
“Get them!” The killers lurking in the shadows saw the coast was clear and leapt out, surrounding their targets.
Joel scanned the circle of attackers closing in. He did a quick headcount–fifteen, and every single one was an elite fighter.
“Looks like we’ve got killers on our hands,” Devin muttered, back–to–back with Joel.
“Spot on,” Joel replied, eyes narrowing.

They split into two groups–one to hold Devin off, the other going straight for Joel with deadly
intent.
“They’re after him,‘ Devin thought, frowning. ‘But who’s targeting him?‘
Anyone sharp enough to work alongside Tobias wasn’t clueless. It didn’t take Devin long to guess who was behind this.
“Watch out!” Devin shouted to Joel.
With a loud thud, Joel smashed his fist into one of the killers, the impact echoing through the alley.
The killer who took the blow felt like he’d been hit by a speeding train.
Blood sprayed from his mouth with a sickening splatter.
Damn, that’s impressive!‘ Devin thought, realizing Joel’s punch was even stronger than his own.
Before he could finish his thought, Joel had already taken down several more attackers.
Damn, he’s good!‘ Devin thought, impressed.
Just then, a killer suddenly sprang out from the bushes behind Joel.
oel was locked in a fierce fight with two killers right in front of him.
‘Watch your back!” Devin shouted.
