“Miss Bennett, this is a special birthday cake Mr. Moreno prepared just for you,” Devin said.
Kaia stared at the cake in shock. It was easily three times the size of the one at Andrea and Louis’s
engagement party.
“Do you think we can finish this?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
Tobias blinked, caught off guard. He’d expected her to be touched, not question the size of the cake.
“Wasteful,” she muttered, though her heart warmed at the gesture.
“No worries. If we can’t finish it, I’ll have Devin cut up the cake and share it with everyone at the company. There are so many employees. They’ll definitely finish it. Plus, more people can send you their best wishes,” Tobias said with a grin.
Kaia just stared at Tobias unblinkingly.
“Don’t just stand there. Come on, let’s go inside. There’s another surprise waiting for you,” Tobias said, glancing at the villa ahead.
Puzzled, Kaia pushed open the door to the villa.
With a series of pops, colorful streamers burst through the air.
Kaia froze again, not only because of the sudden flying streamers, but also because the entire villa was decorated with roses–on the floor, the walls, and even the staircase railings.
If someone walked in without knowing, they’d think they’d stumbled into a rose estate.
“So, what do you think? Do you like it?” Tobias asked, watching her closely.
Kaia finally pulled her gaze from the sea of roses, her brows knitting slightly as she looked at Tobias.
“You… what is all this for?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
“What do you think something like this is for?” Tobias countered, a playful glint in his eyes.
Kaia hesitated, then slowly said, “Confession?”
“Clever! That’s my fiancée, Tobias said with a grin
Kaia rolled her eyes. “After tonight, I won’t be
“That’s exactly why I set all this up. Tobias said, his smile widening

lines. What I’m about to say comes straight from my heart. I hope you’ll become my wife, the mother of my children, and the grandmother of my grandchildren. That’s all I want.”
Kaia’s lips parted slightly. She’d had plenty of guys confess to her–more than she could count–but never one this blunt.
She thought, “To be his wife, the mother of his kids, the grandmother to his grandchildren… Isn’t he basically saying he wants to keep me for life?‘
After a long silence, Kaia stepped back to put some distance between them.
“I told you before, I’ve never thought about settling down. I just want to focus on my career, so you’d better give up,” she said firmly.
“The word ‘give up‘ doesn’t exist in my dictionary,” Tobias replied, his voice steady and resolute.
Kaia raised an eyebrow and said, “I seem to remember someone saying not too long ago that I wasn’t good enough for him and that he could never like me.” Her tone carried a hint of teasing.
“That someone was blind,” Tobias shot back without missing a beat.
Kaia was speechless, not knowing how to respond to that.
Then she said, tilting her head. “I’m really curious. What exactly do you like about me?”
“I don’t know,” Tobias replied.
“You don’t know?” Kaia looked genuinely surprised.
Tobias nodded. “Yeah.”
“You don’t even know what you like about me, and you’re already confessing and proposing? Are you for real?” Kaia couldn’t believe what she had just heard.
Tobias took a step forward. His long legs closed the distance between them in an instant.
The light above cast his shadow over her, enveloping her completely.
His deep eyes were filled with unwavering affection as he stared at her, as if he wanted to etch her into his very bones.
Does liking someone have to mean you like just one particular thing about them? Can’t it be everything? Can’t it be pure and simple attraction? Tobias asked.
His words left Kaia momentarily lost for words.
“Uh, it’s getting late, and I’m tired With that, she turned and headed for the door.
“I told you, I’m not giving up. So, Kala, you’d better be prepared, Tobias said, his gaze fixed on her

like a predator eyeing its prey.
Kaia glanced back at Tobias and said coolly, “Suit yourself.”
Tobias grinned, his steps light as he caught up to her.
“So, does that mean you’re giving me a chance?” he teased.
Kaia retorted, “I never said that.”
“But you didn’t say no,” he shot back.

“Well, I’m saying-” Kaia started, but Tobias suddenly put his finger to her lips before she could finish.
“Shh, don’t say it. Let me have a good dream tonight,” he murmured.
There was a gritty texture to his touch, laced with heat that lingered on her skin.
Kaia raised her arm and gently pushed his hand away. “Don’t touch me without my consent.”
“Alright, I won’t do that again,” Tobias replied, his lit up with delight.
eyes
Kaia stared at him, thinking his words didn’t sound sincere at all.
But she couldn’t be bothered to argue.
The night passed.
Early the next morning, Kaia started packing up her stuff.
Tobias showed up at the doorway, his sharp brows drawn together.
“Do you really have to leave now?” he asked.
“We agreed on one month, and that’s exactly what I gave you. Plus, you said I owed you ten extra days for crashing at your place that one night. I paid those back too,” Kaia said, still packing as she spoke
“So, do you have anywhere to stay?” Tobias asked, concern clear in his voice.
Kaia replied, ‘T’ll check into a hotel first and then look for a suitable place.”
“Why not stay here until you find one? Tobias suggested.
“Thanks for your kindness,” Kaia said.
She had finished packing and was already heading downstairs with her luggage.

Just then, Keaton came rushing in, leaning on his cane. “Kaia, are you really leaving?”

“Sir, please don’t try to keep me. You saved my life, and I honored our agreement by getting engaged to your grandson and staying here. Oh, and since you’re here, please help me cancel the engagement with him.” Kaia said.
Her words caught Tobias off guard. “I don’t agree.”
Kaia looked at him and said, “Why are you so unreasonable?”
“Because you were unreasonable first,” Tobias replied sharply.
Looking at his righteous face, Kaia felt a little frustrated.
“No one can force me,” she said, her tone unyielding.
“I’m not forcing you. I’m asking you,” Tobias said. He could let Kaia leave for now, but there was no way he’d let her break off their engagement.
“Asking? Is this what you call asking? You sure have a funny way of doing that,” Kaia retorted.
“Alright, alright!” Keaton cut in.
“Kaia, listen to me. The agreement was for one month. If you two didn’t fall for each other, the engagement would be off. But now the problem is, Tobias likes you. That means the engagement still stands. How about this? Give him another month. If you still don’t like him, then it’s his problem, and I won’t interfere,” Keaton suggested.
“Sir, I’ve made up my mind. I’m leaving today, and the engagement is over,” Kaia said seriously.
Keaton said with a sigh, “Alright, alright, I know how stubborn you are. Nothing can change your mind. If you want to end the engagement and leave today, I won’t stop you.”
