Chapter 17
The next second, she couldn’t take it anymore. She burst through the office door and confronted Ethan, her eyes red with tears: “I came all the way here to surprise you, and this is how you treat me?”
His friends were a bit embarrassed seeing her suddenly appear, but since Ethan himself couldn’t even be bothered to look at her, why should they care?
They might as well enjoy the show.
Ethan snapped back irritably: “Who said you could come in here?”
Tiffany stood there stunned, like she’d been struck by lightning. Her voice broke as she accused him: “So you don’t have any urgent work at all–you were just brushing me off! You played me like a fool!”
Her dream of officially becoming Mrs. Thompson was completely shattered.
Ethan snorted with contempt, not even bothering to pretend anymore: “What did I lie about? Did I not give you money? Did I not let your parents live it up using my name? I’ve given you everything you deserved–you should know your place and stop fantasizing.”
He was being a complete bastard, no sugarcoating.
Seeing Tiffany gearing up for a major scene, he decided to lay it all out: “I never promised to divorce my wife and marry you. This was just for fun–stop obsessing over titles and status. Now go home.”
Tiffany’s crying stopped abruptly. She rushed over and grabbed his hand, tears streaming: “You won’t even lie to me
anymore?”
When a man faces a woman who’s desperately in love with him, even if he’s not moved, he usually feels some pity mixed with
superiority.
Seeing Ethan’s cold attitude, Tiffany suspected he was disgusted with her for embarrassing him in front of his friends. She quickly changed tactics, slipping back into her helpless, innocent act.
“I know I can’t compare to Claire–I wouldn’t dare try. But I love you just as much as she does. Otherwise, your words wouldn’t hurt me like this. But I’ve thought it through now–as long as I can stay by your side, I’ll do anything…”
As she spoke, she clutched his sleeve with tears in her eyes, strategically letting her movements reveal glimpses of skin
beneath her coat.
If Ethan looked down even once, he’d see she was wearing nothing under that coat–surely that would be enough to seduce
him.
But his interest in her seemed to have vanished completely with her desperate scene. He didn’t even glance at her, just frowned with obvious irritation and shook her hand off: “You don’t love me–you just love my money.”
He’d always known exactly what Tiffany was.
The only reason he’d pampered and coddled her was for his own enjoyment–to feel superior and desired. At the end of the day, it was all about pleasing himself. Whether it was Tiffany or any other girl, it had never mattered.
Too bad Tiffany never understood that. She’d actually believed he had special feelings for her, convinced herself she could push Claire out and take her place as Mrs. Thompson.

Chapter 17
That delusional dream was finally shattered today.
Tiffany’s eyes widened as she stared at Ethan in disbelief: “How can you think that about me? I love you so much–I’d do anything for you!”
She tried to prove it to him, but couldn’t come up with a single concrete example.
Once Ethan had lost interest in her, his attitude did a complete 180, plummeting to rock bottom.
He brushed off his sleeve where no dust existed and smoothed out the wrinkles she’d made in his shirt, then turned to leave
without looking back.
Tiffany knew that once he walked away, she’d never get another chance. She threw herself at him desperately: “I really do love you! Please don’t abandon me–I’ll never make you angry again! And my parents–they’ll leave right away-”
“They never belonged in my house anyway.” Ethan was annoyed by her clinging and turned to look at the friend who’d jokingly asked to try something new with Tiffany: “Alright, I’m bored with her now. She’s all yours.”
