room.
The pink diamond’s value was obvious. Nobody expected the bidding to climb this high.
“Why are you still raising the bid…”
Anneliese leaned forward anxiously, gripping Jonathan’s paddle hand tightly.
Her hands were still icy, even though her health had mostly recovered.
The sudden chill pressed against his warm hand, sending a shiver of tingling heat through him.
Jonathan tightened his grip instinctively, resisting the strange sensation.
Goosebumps rose along his wrist even under the cuff of his sleeve.
His body reflected his feelings openly and intensely.
He braced his elbow on the table, leaned closer, and asked, “Hm?”
Anneliese realized something. Jonathan came from wealth. He probably grew up handling jewels and diamonds like toys.
He could not be unaware that the pink diamond’s price had already soared. This could only mean…
“You realized Zacharias is bidding too? You’re helping me.”
Her eyes widened in recognition as she looked up at Jonathan.
She had not noticed how close he leaned. Their breaths mingled. If she moved slightly, she might brush against the curve of his lips.
Anneliese froze. Jonathan froze too, seemingly more startled than she was.

The screen displayed a full 360–degree view of the pink diamond. Light from the jewelry lamps danced across its facets, casting shimmering reflections into Jonathan’s eyes.
His eyes looked deep and mysterious, like a falling galaxy.
Anneliese held her breath until the auctioneer’s voice cut through the tension.
“Eight million! Lot 34 bids eight million, eight million once! Eight million twice! Will Lot 1 raise the bid?”
Jonathan reacted first, lifting the paddle with her hand still holding his.
“Ten million! Lot 1 increases to ten million! Wow, this really is a remarkable pink diamond.”
The rhythmic voice of the auctioneer pulled Anneliese back to reality.
She quickly pulled her hand away and tugged at Jonathan’s sleeve, anxious.
“Stop. You don’t need to bid more. Besides, even if he wins the diamond, it might not be for me. Maybe he’s giving it to an old flame.”
She understood what Jonathan was doing. Jonathan was bidding because she didn’t want the diamond. Zacharias, however, was determined to reclaim it and likely return it to her.
Jonathan and Zacharias were now at odds.
Spending ten million on a diamond worth far less seemed reckless.
Jonathan gave her a reassuring look.
“It’s fine.”
Over at Lot 34, Zacharias‘ face darkened.
Selina frowned beside him, glancing toward Anneliese and Jonathan.

He yanked his hand free.
