Outside the airport, Anneliese and Jessica met Rory at a restaurant.
“Mr. Reyes, it’s been a long time. I heard about what happened to you over the years. I’m truly sorry.”
Anneliese reached her hand across the table, but Rory didn’t move.
His eyes looked mocking, and his expression stayed cold.
Back then, their companies had been bitter rivals. As Zacharias‘ secretary and girlfriend, Anneliese had clashed with Rory’s company more times than she could count. None of those meetings had ended well.
Then came Rory’s accident. He lost his funding, his team abandoned him, and his health collapsed. Years had passed, yet he looked more than a decade older.
Meanwhile, Anneliese looked radiant, like someone living at the height of success.
“Mr. Reyes, don’t take it out on her. The one who ruined you was Zacharias, that b’stard, not Anne,” Jessica said, irritated by Rory’s attitude.
Anneliese pulled her hand back and caught Jessica’s wrist.

“You can’t even tell what’s right from what’s wrong. We-” Jessica started, frowning.
“Jess.”
Anneliese shook her head and called the waiter, ordering a bottle of red wine.
When it arrived, she poured three glasses full to the rim.
She stood, glass in hand.
“Whether you believe me or not, I wasn’t involved in what Zacharias did, and I knew nothing about it.
“I may be divorcing him now, but it isn’t final yet. So, if you want to call me his wife and think I profited from him, you’re not wrong. This first glass is my apology.”
She tilted her head back and swallowed the wine until the glass was empty.
Rory didn’t flinch. His eyes stayed cold.
Anneliese lifted the second glass. “I heard about your failed startup, how your team left you, and your girlfriend walked out. This one’s for that.”
She downed it in one gulp, swaying as she set it down. Jessica caught her arm.
“Anne…”
Anneliese steadied herself and picked up the last glass.
“Your legs are gone, and your body is broken. I can’t give you your health back. But I’ll pay for every treatment you need from here on. I’ll drink this last one to prove I mean it.”

Her head spun. Jessica eased her into her chair, but Anneliese kept her eyes fixed on Rory.
Rory frowned. “Strange. I remember you being very close with Zacharias back then, Mrs. Shaw.”
He still didn’t believe her.
Anneliese pulled two items from her bag and pushed them across the table.
“These are photos of Zacharias cheating on me.
“This is a copy of the police report I filed against his mother, Melody. It’s stamped and dated five days ago.
“And this recorder holds a conversation I think you should hear.”
Suspicious but curious, Rory picked them up. The photos showed Coral and Zacharias in compromising positions.
The report carried the seal of the police department. The date matched her words.
Then he pressed play on the recorder. Zacharias‘ furious voice filled the room.
“Anneliese, are you insane? I told you, what happened with Coral was a mistake! It’s over! Why did you lose it like this? You trashed our house! Answer me!”
“Zacharias, I’m never going back to Sunrise Residence.”

“You slept with Coral, and you fell for Selina. You disgust me.
