She cleared her throat. “I’m not a captain yet. I still don’t have the required flight hours.”
Could she actually be sarcastic?
Anneliese smiled and pulled out her phone, giving it a playful shake. “Then it’s only a matter of time before you’re promoted. Can we take a picture with you?”
Jessica immediately nodded, her eager eyes making it hard for anyone to refuse.
India gave a reserved nod. “All right.”
With that, the two girls quickly moved to stand on either side of her.
Adjusting the camera, Anneliese stretched out her arm, but it felt wrong to just take a selfie. India’s whole aura deserved a full–body shot. So, she handed the phone to Jonathan. “Please take one for us.”
Jonathan accepted the phone, momentarily thrown off.
Zion was just as stunned. Ms. Malone has been chasing Mr. Fullbuster for nearly a decade and even ended up a pilot herself in the process! And here I am, worried she and Anneliese might clash over Mr. Fullbuster, but what on earth is happening?!
Watching Jonathan holding the phone and awkwardly preparing almost felt sorry for him.

“All done? Thank you.” Anneliese walked over, took her phone back, and checked the pictures.
Jonathan fixed his eyes on her. “Why didn’t you ask to take a photo with me?”
Am I not good–looking enough in uniform? She’s seen me dress like this several times, but has never once suggested a picture! We haven’t had a single photo together to this day!
Anneliese looked up, surprised to find something like disappointment flickering in his eyes. She blinked. “Did you want to be in it too? We can ask Mr. Harland to take one of us together.”
Jonathan clenched his jaw. “No need.”

Meanwhile, Jessica turned to India. “Captain Malone, what’s your secret to being that tall?”
At five–foot–three, Jessica had always considered her height a flaw. Anneliese, nearly five–seven, already made her envious, but India’s height and striking looks were the kind of body Jessica wished she could reserve for her next life.
India gave her a straightforward answer. “Find yourself a tall boyfriend and hope your progeny carry his genes.”
Jessica went speechless.
India then walked over to Jonathan. “I have some thoughts about the internal recruitment program. Let’s discuss it over dinner.”
Every year, AeroAir ran an internal pilot recruitment program, with a dedicated training base in Agylae. This round of female pilot recruitment was India’s responsibility. But due to concerns about training returns and lingering gender bias, AeroAir’s executives had always contested Jonathan’s push to increase the proportion of female recruits.
When a female captain in Adros was recently involved in a plane crash, the board doubled down on its pressure to cancel the female slots entirely.
Jonathan understood this was most likely why India had brought it up. He nodded, then glanced toward Anneliese. “I won’t be able to join you for dinner. Maybe-”
He was about to suggest that Anneliese and Jessica could come along to experience the staff dining hall, but she quickly waved him off. “It’s fine. You’ve already done more than enough these past two days. Go on with your business. Jess and I will head out first.”
She tugged Jessica along, the two of them leaving together.
Not far away, two flight attendants passed them, whispering excitedly.
“Look, it’s Mr. Fullbuster and Ms. Malone! They’re such a perfect match.”
“I heard they grew up together. Ms. Malone gave up joining her family’s logistics company just to follow him and even became a pilot. She really loves him.”
“Well, why do you think the chairman handpicked her as his future daughter–in–law? Some people are just born with cheat codes. Can’t even be jealous.”

The two attendants giggled as they walked off, and Anneliese couldn’t help but glance back in the direction they’d pointed.
Jonathan and India were walking side by side, India speaking animatedly as she tilted her head up at him. Jonathan leaned toward her naturally, lips faintly curved in what looked like a smile.
Jessica peeked at Anneliese’s expression, then asked with mock innocence, “What are you looking at?”
Annie’s not jealous, is she?
Anneliese turned back to her friend. “I was looking at Jonathan and India. Didn’t you hear what those two flight attendants just said?”
