She knew better than to count on Zacharias.

Selina was in possession of the emerald bracelet, and she had no plans of returning it so easily.
She kept bringing Zacharias up, a deliberate reminder to Jonathan that Anneliese was still
another man’s wife.
Not a word of it did Anneliese believe.
She smiled coldly. “Is that so?”
“Of course, Anne. If you don’t believe me, just give him a call right now.”
She had felt his phone in his pocket when he jumped into the pool to save Anneliese.
It was waterlogged now, and she wasn’t worried about Anneliese actually making the call.
Anneliese frowned.
Selina’s eyes reddened slightly, though her smile stayed helpless and sweet.
“Anne, you’re free to search my room if you still don’t believe me.”
She then added, “I have plenty of new jewelry, and you can have anything you like.”
Hearing this, Anneliese was certain the bracelet wouldn’t be found.
Too ill and weary to argue any further, she dismissed the woman coldly.
“I’m not interested in anything of yours, but don’t dream of taking what’s mine. Touch it, and you’ll pay the price.”
Selina looked hurt.
“I know you don’t like me, which is why you hate the people and things around me,” she answered in a low voice.
Her words carried a hidden meaning, and she looked at Jonathan while she spoke.
However, the man didn’t even spare her a glance.
Instead, he simply reached out to steady Anneliese as she stood up.

She had looked forward to today’s birthday banquet, yet it ended in such disgrace.
Over the next two weeks, the White family would be the butt of the joke within their circle.
“Alright now, Mr. Fullbuster’s still here. Anneliese’s behavior today was unacceptable, and I’ll teach her a lesson once he leaves!” Timothy spoke sharply.
Just then, Anneliese interjected, “How are you planning to punish me? Are you going to cut my allowance off? Lock me out of the estate on purpose? Make me kneel in the garden? Or perhaps have me spend the night counting beans?”
She had been in those situations before.
Having her allowance cut was practically routine.
Selina received thousands each month, even receiving extra from the family.
But when Anneliese returned, Timothy and Melanie feared that she’d squander it all or develop bad spending habits, and they barely gave her a tenth of Selina’s monthly allowance.
Even that lasted only one month.
When they learned she had used her entire allowance to cover her grandmother’s medical bills in Baytree, they were annoyed that she’d put outsiders before her own so–called family.
They reduced her allowance even further, claiming that keeping close ties with her old family would affect her relationship with the Whites.
Even so, her measly allowance would be cut off whenever Selina put on a teary show.
Being locked outside, forced to kneel in the garden, or made to do mindless chores like counting beans were just more of the White family’s endless tricks.
