Selina’s expression softened a little as she grasped Mikita’s hand the other way around. “Better be careful,” she murmured.
Mikita nodded cagerly. “I’m just worried about you, okay? That Anneliese–she’s the lowest of the low. How dare she flirt with Mr. Fullbuster and then leak the recording to all those people? She’s ruined your reputation! And don’t even get me started on that idiot Christopher–how does he not know what’s okay to say and what’s not…”
Before Mikita could finish, the hospital room door was shoved open with force.
“Selina, come help me talk to Zach!” Lenora burst in, stopping mid–step when she saw someone in the room.
Mikita quickly stood, tilting her head toward Selina. “I’ll leave you to it, then.”
She hurried out without another word. Lenora didn’t seem to mind. “Selina, who was that?”
“Just an elder I know from abroad. She came by to check on me since I’ve been sick. But Lenora, what’s going on with Zach?” Selina asked.
Lenora’s attention snapped back instantly, gripping Selina with urgency. “Zach insists on forcing Coral to have an abortion! He’s furious we hid things from him and got him to divorce Anneliese. Now he’s even angry with Mom and me. We can’t stop him! Selina, you have to talk some sense into him.”
Selina let herself be pulled out of the room, her eyes flashing nothing but impatience and disgust.
Coral kinda looks like me, like some cheap stand–in. And now this stand–in thinks she will get pregnant and have a kid? I never paid much attention to her before–figured keeping her around might mess with Anneliese a little. But now that Anneliese and Zacharias are divorced, there’s no need to keep Coral’s kid around. If played right, Coral could be a d*mn sharp tool in my hands.
Once Lenora guided Selina to the operating room door, she saw Zacharias standing there with a cold, distant look. Coral crouched on the floor, holding his legs and begging pitifully.
Selina put on a show as she helped Coral up. “You’re pregnant–you can’t be sitting on the floor like that. Get up.”

Selina wasted no time. “Zacharias, I know Anne’s personality well. If Coral really goes through with this pregnancy, the child will be living proof of your affair. Every time she’s around, it’ll be a constant reminder to Anne that you betrayed her, that you betrayed your marriage. There’ll be no turning back.”
Zacharias had assumed Selina was coming to persuade him to keep the child. His expression had been sharp and hard, but now he was taken aback–Selina was actually siding with him.
He softened slightly. “You’re not here to tell me to keep the baby?”
Selina frowned, a hint of regret in her expression. “I feel for the child–it’s innocent. But I have my own stance. I’m Anne’s sister. I can’t take Coral’s side. Besides, I know you can’t let go of Anne. As your friend, I have to support your choice.”
Selina needed Zacharias to pursue Anneliese even more. She refused to believe Jonathan could remain indifferent if Anneliese and Zacharias were still entangled.
Zacharias‘ gaze softened completely.
“You just can’t force it–imagine how messy that would be. Here’s what you do: act like you’re convinced by me, and I’ll handle Mrs. Shaw and Lenora. As for getting Coral to go quietly onto the operating table, I don’t even need to explain that part, right?”
Zacharias nodded, and Selina immediately turned to Melody and Lenora, giving each of them a quick, decisive nod.
The three lit up with relief, while Coral clutched Selina’s hand, thanking her repeatedly.
Coral had heard that Selina and Anneliese didn’t get along at all. She figured Selina was protecting her baby primarily to spite Anneliese.
But after drinking a single glass of milk that night, Coral slipped into a deep sleep. When she opened her eyes, she found herself lying alone on a hospital bed, and her baby was gone.
When the doorbell rang, Anneliese was busy in the kitchen, getting breakfast ready.
Before she could even say a word, Meatloaf crouched right beside her, shot off toward the door like a rocket.

Meatloaf knew how to open doors. Lately, besides Jonathan and Jessica upstairs, they hadn’t had any visitors. So, Anneliese didn’t think much of it–until she heard Meatloaf barking in a panicked frenzy at the doorstep.
She quickly turned off the stove and hurried out of the kitchen. At the door, she found Melanie standing there, a maid trailing behind her.
Melanie’s brow was furrowed. “Get that thing under control! This is a fancy neighborhood, not your old Baytree countryside. Is it really okay to have a wild dog like that lunging at anyone?”
Anneliese frowned and patted Meatloaf’s head to calm him. Her voice was sharp. “Meatloaf’s registered, vaccinated against rabies, and microchipped. He’s perfectly legal to be here. On the other hand, some people seem to think it’s fine to barge into private homes.”
