Zacharias was seething with rage.

Anneliese stepped back, shaking the can of pepper spray in her hand. “I got this just for you. Surprised?”
Zacharias felt like his eyes were about to burn out–he couldn’t even see the smirk on her face, but he could imagine it perfectly from the tone of her voice.
She had gone to such lengths to guard against him. Thinking of that, he felt the pain in his heart was far worse than the pain in his body.
He bent over, bracing himself against the wall, sweat pouring down his face.
“I love you so much, and this is how you treat me?”
Anneliese snorted. “Save your love. True love is constant care, not something you realize only after you lose it. And what you’re showing? That’s not care–it’s a selfish obsession, fear of being abandoned, resentment over what you didn’t get. Don’t pretend you’re devoted. Once I hate someone, I will never like them again.”
Having said her piece, she strode toward the hospital room at the end of the hall, leaving Zacharias doubled over in pain. She didn’t even call for a nurse, nor did she notice the doctors standing by the elevator behind her.
“Dr. Chevalier, why are you recording this?”
One of the doctors asked, puzzled, as Carter pocketed his phone.
A medical genius, and still stopping to record the drama like it’s a replay for later?
Carter smirked, sliding the phone into his lab coat pocket and giving it a fond little pat.
Did Jonathan even know his wife was this fiery? And could this video fetch another billion?
If not a billion, 500 million should be doable.
In Starlake Gardens, Jessica and Miles posed as a young couple, strolling through the neighborhood for two days. They quickly became part of the local parents‘ group and easily gathered basic information about Mikita.
Mikita had lived there for six or seven years. At home, she had only a little boy just over four, and a live–in nanny. As for Mikita’s husband, no one had ever seen him.

The nanny often took the boy out to play. From what the older parents heard, Mikita’s husband was a big–time businessman working overseas.
Mikita herself led the typical life of a wealthy housewife: taking her child for walks, shopping, playing card games, arranging flowers, and enjoying afternoon tea. She went to a beauty salon every Wednesday without fail, each visit lasting at least five or six hours.
Jessica took the opportunity when the nanny brought the boy out to approach him and discreetly plucked two strands of his hair.
On a Wednesday, Jessica waited and immediately followed Mikita as soon as she stepped out.
But instead of heading to the beauty salon, Mikita drove straight to a restaurant.
Something was off.
Jessica slipped on a hat and went inside. She saw Mikita head to a private room at the very back of the second floor. Choosing a room with a view of that private space, she ordered a cup of coffee.
But strangely, Mikita didn’t come back out–and no one else seemed to enter either. After more than two hours, Jessica had gone to the restroom twice and began to feel something was wrong. She decided to go downstairs.
Circling the restaurant and studying the first floor, she noticed something odd: there were no private rooms in the same spot downstairs. Instead, a hidden door was tucked behind some plants near the back exit.
If the first and second floors were connected, anyone entering through that back door could reach the second–floor private room without anyone noticing.
Considering this, Jessica approached the door.
She grabbed the handle, about to twist it, when a harsh voice suddenly rang out: “What do you think you’re doing?”
Jessica’s heart jumped. She turned to see a broad, burly man walking toward her, holding an iron rod and staring at her with suspicion.
Jessica stiffened but kept her expression calm, masking her shock.
“I’m looking for my friend,” she said evenly. “He was just around here a moment ago.”
The man clearly didn’t believe her. He took two more steps toward Jessica, dragging the iron rod along the ground with a screeching, bone–chilling scrape.

Jessica felt a cold sweat break out on her back. As she weighed whether she had any chance if it came to a fight, a familiar, slightly rough voice suddenly called out.
“Hey, babe, I’m right here.”
Jessica whipped around. In a nearby spot, a tall figure leaned casually against a pillar, a cigarette tucked between his fingers, a lazy smirk on his face as he looked her way.
Seeing her turn, he flicked the cigarette butt to the ground and crushed it underfoot, then started toward her.
Jessica reacted instantly, stomping her foot in frustration.
“I knew you were sneaking off to smoke again! And all that talk about quitting for a baby–it was all a lie. Fine, then. I’m not having a kid. Whoever you want to have it with, go ahead!”
She stormed toward Zane, punching toward his chest before striding past him.
Zane let out a soft hiss, gave the burly man with the iron rod an awkward smile, then turned to follow Jessica, slipping his arm around her slender waist.
