But Zacharias couldn’t ignore the sight before him.

Anneliese was dressed in silk pajamas–long–sleeved and long–legged, modest in style. Yet the fabric at her chest was rumpled, her hair in disarray, her eyes tinged red at the corners, her beauty too dazzling to conceal. Anyone could guess what had just happened.
The mere thought drove Zacharias into a jealous rage, twisting his features.
“Jonathan, you jerk! What did you do to her?”
He clenched his fist and swung hard at Jonathan.
Jonathan pulled Anneliese close and twisted aside, shielding her.
Zacharias stumbled forward, missing his target, crashing against the entryway before catching himself on the wall. He turned back, fury blazing in his eyes.
“Anne! He’s deceived you! He’s already married–how could you degrade yourself by being with a man so heartless, so vile? Come to me, now!”
He reached out to her, desperate.
Anneliese frowned. “Zacharias, if you’re here to throw a drunken tantrum, get out. Don’t poison the air in my home.”
Her words struck him like a blow. His expression crumpled with anguish. “I love you–I’m begging you to come back to me. But you refuse to even look at me. Instead, you give yourself to him, letting him use you, lowering yourself to be his plaything–his mistress? Weren’t you the one who despised Coral and Selina? And what are you now? You’re worse than them. You’re cheap!”
Jonathan’s patience snapped. He moved in an instant, raising his foot to strike.
Anneliese caught him around the waist–not out of pity for Zacharias, but because she wanted to deal with him herself.
“I’ll handle this.”
Her voice was low, steady. She signaled for Jonathan to release her.
Jonathan arched a brow. With him around, he wouldn’t let her be hurt. He let her go.

Anneliese stepped toward Zacharias. His eyes lit up at once, those soft, charming eyes flashing with excitement, a rush of heat spreading through him.
“Anne, I knew—”
He never finished.
A sharp slap split the air.
Her hand had landed squarely across his face, shattering his
smug
words.
Zacharias slowly turned his head back toward her.
Anneliese raised her hand again and struck him with another clean slap. “Are you clear–headed now?”
His fists clenched. He lunged, hand shooting out to grab her.
But an arm slipped around Anneliese’s waist, drawing her firmly back into the safety of Jonathan’s chest. In the same motion, Jonathan drove his foot into Zacharias‘ stomach. The blow doubled him over, forcing him to one knee as he clutched his abdomen in pain.
“You all right?” Jonathan asked quietly.
“I’m… I’m fine,” she whispered, leaning against him.
But Jonathan caught her hand, frowning at the redness in her palm.
“You call this fine? Your hand is swollen.”
He lifted it, lowering his head to gently blow across her heated skin.
Anneliese suspected he was doing it on purpose–for Zacharias to see–but she had no proof.
Even so, his warm breath sent sparks racing through her fingertips, a tingling like a live
current.
She curled her fingers into a fist, then looked back at Zacharias–only to meet the dark, venomous stare in his eyes.
His face had gone pale with pain, one hand pressed to his stomach, the other braced against the wall as he struggled upright. His eyes burned red as he glared at them, as if they were adulterers flaunting their betrayal.
Anneliese let out a cutting laugh. “You have no right to question me. What you’re doing is

nothing but harassment. Get out–now.”
She pointed to the door.

Even Meatloaf despised Zacharias. She arched her back and barked furiously at him, sharp and relentless.
But Zacharias refused to leave.
He fixed his glare on Jonathan, gritting his teeth. “I’ll go if he goes!”
Anneliese was speechless at the sheer audacity. Jonathan, however, tightened his arm around her waist, his lips curling into a mocking smile.
“You? Compete with me? Do you even know who I am?”
Rage boiled in Zacharias‘ eyes. Of course, he knew who Jonathan was.
“Jonathan, what’s there for you to brag about? You’re nothing but lucky—born into the Fullbuster family instead of somewhere else—”
Jonathan cut him off, already impatient.
“That’s enough. Shut your mouth.”
Then, he lowered his gaze to the woman in his arms.
“He doesn’t seem to know who I am, babe. Why don’t you tell him–who am I to you?”
The blush on Anneliese’s cheeks had never faded, and now, under Jonathan’s gentle, expectant eyes, the heat climbed higher still.
But she didn’t hesitate. She wrapped her arms tightly around his lean waist and faced Zacharias head–on.
“Zacharias, I already told you before–I’m married. He’s my husband. This is our home. We live together legally. The only one who needs to leave is you.”
