Ever since Jonathan made it clear he wouldn’t tolerate a marriage without intimacy, her behavior had grown erratic. Honestly, what a mess.
“I’ll send you the beauty specialist’s card on WhatsApp later, but seriously–you’ve got problems.”
Anneliese couldn’t stand Nicole’s coy, prying gaze. With a dismissive wave, she turned and left the terrace.
When she found Marlowe, she hadn’t expected Zacharias to be there as well.
She had assumed he’d already left. Instinctively, Anneliese wanted to turn back, but Marlowe spotted her first.
“Anne, come here.”
She offered a polite smile and walked over. Marlowe drew her down beside him, unconcerned about the eyes around them, and asked bluntly, “Where’s Mr. Fullbuster?”
“The little girl’s family came to fetch her, so he brought the girl to the lobby.”
Anneliese’s expression remained serene as she spoke with Marlowe about Jonathan.
But to Zacharias, that calm, radiant smile was unbearable. His fingers trembled around his wine glass. Watching his ex–wife–still the woman he loved–laugh and speak about another man with such ease was torture.
Especially tonight, when Zacharias had met setback after setback in front of Derek and Marlowe.
The contrast cut deeper. Compared to Selina, Anneliese had been the ideal partner.
He had taken her for granted, and now he regretted it bitterly. Yet she gave him no chance, not even the smallest opening.
Tonight, she hadn’t spared his feelings at all, announcing her engagement to Jonathan before everyone, playing the role of a couple without hesitation.
Jealousy and remorse churned inside Zacharias until he burst out, “Anne, even if we’re divorced, we shared over ten years together. We’re still friends and family. Let’s have a drink.”
He beckoned a waiter, seized a champagne flute, and held it out to her.

Anneliese regarded him coolly.

She didn’t reach for the glass. Instead, her voice was light but cutting. “Sorry, I believe a good ex should be as good as dead–someone who doesn’t intrude on the other’s life.”
Zacharias froze, his handsome features tightening with hurt.
With so many people watching, he thought she would at least humor him with a sip for the sake of appearances.
He sighed softly. “Anne, I can’t be that heartless. If you ever need anything, I’ll always be there…”
Some of the businessmen nearby even nodded, impressed by his show of loyalty.
But Anneliese felt nothing but disgust. Her lips curved into a mocking smile.
“No need. My husband would get jealous. The only connection I want left between us is when you transfer the divorce settlement. Clauderias Tech isn’t on the verge of bankruptcy, is it? Is that why you’ve been dragging your feet?”
He wanted to pose as the devoted ex.
Yet a man who couldn’t even honor a settlement on time could hardly be called loyal.
Her words silenced Zacharias, leaving his façade shattered.
From across the table, Derek broke off his conversation and frowned. “Mr. Shaw, I’m older, so let me give you some advice. Keeping your word is everything. A divorce agreement isn’t just another contract. Delay makes you look unreliable.”
Zacharias‘ jaw tightened. “You’re right, Mr. Golding. I already instructed my people to transfer the settlement to Anne. Perhaps someone mishandled it. I’ll check right away.”
With so many eyes on him, Anneliese had cornered him. If he didn’t resolve it immediately, rumors would spread.
And tonight, his purpose was to renew a contract with Derek. He had already tested the man’s patience; if Derek doubted his reliability, any renewal would be out of the question.
Zacharias quickly made a call. Less than five minutes later, Anneliese’s phone buzzed.
It was a bank notification–500 million dollars had been deposited into her account.
“Anne, Jackie must have forgotten. The settlement’s been transferred,” Zacharias said tightly,

His eyes were filled with anguish. Never had he imagined their years together would end like this–humiliated, in front of everyone.
The woman who once stood quietly behind him, small yet unyielding, was now striking at him with precision.
Every word, every blow, landed deep.
Anneliese only nodded. “From now on, please call me Mrs. Fullbuster.”
The sound of Zacharias‘ fists clenching echoed faintly, but she no longer cared. She turned to Derek, said her goodbyes, and left the ballroom to find Jonathan.
Outside, she spotted Jonathan and Ellie–an adult and a kid.
She rushed forward, but as she drew closer, she noticed another tall figure lingering behind a pillar.
It looked like India.
