“She misheard.” Anneliese threw the words over her shoulder and walked off in a hurry.
At that moment, she wanted nothing more than to track Nicole down and strangle her.
Jonathan’s icy glare cut across Jenna just as she tried to follow. But instead of backing down, Jenna blurted out in desperation, “Mr. Fullbuster, I’m telling the truth! Why won’t you believe
me?”
This wasn’t how she imagined things would go.
Jonathan stopped walking. Jenna’s heart leaped. Her cheeks flushed, her lips trembling as she whispered, “Mr. Fullbuster, I’m… I’m cleaner than Mrs. Fullbuster. I’ve never even dated anyone. I’m still a college student, and I’d be willing to-”
Her simpering act might have worked on other men. Unfortunately for her, she had picked the wrong one.
Jonathan’s eyes turned dark with contempt. His voice cut through the night like a blade. “What are you, some product for sale? You think you’re even qualified to compare yourself to my wife?”
The scorn in his words hit harder than a slap. Jenna’s face drained of color, then flushed crimson with humiliation.
Without wasting another second, Jonathan shot Zion a glance and strode after Anneliese.
“Mr. Fullbuster!” Jenna cried, trying to chase after him.
Zion blocked her path like a brick wall, his voice sharp. “Ms. Lawson, Mrs. Fullbuster isn’t someone you can slander at will. If you’re so desperate to ruin yourself, might I suggest you find a wall and bang your head against it instead?”
“Why you!” Jenna’s eyes blazed.
Zion only chuckled coldly, pulled out his phone, and walked off, leaving her standing there trembling with rage.
By the time she turned to retreat back inside, her agent came storming out. His face was dark as thunder. Before Jenna could open her mouth, he jabbed a finger at her and exploded, “What the hell did you just do? I just got a call–three endorsements gone, two scripts canceled, and even the Fullbuster Group endorsement contract we already signed is being dissolved!”

Inside the car.
Anneliese had her eyes shut, pretending to sleep, making it clear she wanted nothing to do with the man beside her.
Jonathan wasn’t fooled. His gaze lingered on her fluttering lashes and the faint flush warming her cheeks, even in the dim cabin light. A helpless smile tugged at his lips.
Anneliese was mortified.
Just as she was about ready to dig a hole and bury herself in it, Jonathan’s large hand gently steadied her head, easing it against his shoulder as the car rolled along.
She stiffened at the sudden closeness. His warmth, his clean masculine scent, the subtle heat radiating from his skin–it was all far too much.
Her body went rigid, nerves stretched taut.
Jonathan felt her tense up more and more, but the smile in his eyes only deepened. He dipped his head slightly, voice low and amused. “Hey… really, there’s no need for all that.”
Anneliese shot up like a startled cat, eyes flashing at him. “I told you–she misheard! I never planned on getting that kind of surgery!”
Jonathan, seeing her face turn scarlet with indignation, quickly nodded. “Okay, okay. I believe you. I just wanted you to know that marrying you means I don’t care about your past. Not even your previous marriage.”
The thought of Zacharias, however, still stirred something dark and poisonous inside him. The jealousy, the urge to erase the man completely, to wipe him from Anneliese’s memory–it simmered quietly, but he would never act on it.
He wasn’t a boy anymore. He knew that loving someone meant taking them as they were–past and all. Otherwise, resentment would fester like a thorn, tearing them apart from the inside.
Anneliese listened to the calm, almost playful tone of his voice, and the flush faded from her face. But her chest still felt heavy, a little tight.
He already has someone in his heart, she thought bitterly. Of course he doesn’t care.
Words pressed against the back of her throat, but she swallowed them. If he isn’t bothered, then

there is no point in explaining.
“I get it,” she murmured, nodding.

Jonathan, seeing her head bowed and mood low, mistook it for lingering embarrassment. He reached out, ruffling her hair gently, his voice warm. “Just promise me you won’t do anything foolish, alright?”
Anneliese was rendered speechless.
At this rate, the misunderstanding was going to gnaw at her forever.
Flustered, she finally blurted out, “I was asking Nicole about which clinic does the best scar- removal surgery. She misunderstood me, and Jenna overheard, twisted it, and blew it up into a circus. Why on earth would I ask about that kind of surgery?!”
