Chapter 346 A Flustered Evening
“I’m not forcing you?” Jonathan asked.
Anneliese nodded, and a faint smile showed on his face.
“Then go wash up first.”
She nodded again. She had to admit, Penelope had prepared everything thoroughly.

In the dressing room, there was a whole row of brand–new designer clothes from the latest season, clearly just delivered, with some tags still hanging.
There was also lingerie. Probably worried about sizing, Penelope had bought three or four of the same style in different sizes.
Her thoughtfulness made Anneliese feel both touched and guilty.
Penelope truly treated her like a granddaughter–in–law. If she found out this was only a marriage agreement with Jonathan, and that they planned to split in two years, she would probably be upset and angry.
“Can I come in?”
Jonathan tapped lightly on the dressing room door.
Anneliese came back to herself. “Yes.”
He stepped inside. “Can’t find something?”
She had been in there a while.
“No, everything’s here. It’s just… Grandma prepared so much. I can’t possibly wear it all. I feel embarrassed…”
Jonathan looked over the rows of clothes. “If you can’t wear them all, pick what you like and take them home. Let’s visit Grandma more often. Nothing makes her happier.”
“Okay.”
She nodded, then opened a cabinet next to the lingerie to look for sleepwear.
The next second, she slammed the cabinet door shut.

What did she just see?
An entire cabinet full of skimpy, sheer lingerie. Not a single normal piece in sight.
She even spotted a pair of fluffy cat–car headbands and a black cat tail at the bottom.
How could Penelope, who looked so elegant and proper, be hiding things like that?

She wasn’t just preparing food, clothes, and a place to stay. She was clearly pushing them toward a real married life. Anneliese felt like she had walked straight into a trap Penelope had carefully set up.
“Why are you so jumpy?”
Jonathan walked over, but Anneliese couldn’t let him open that cabinet.
She quickly turned and pushed him back. “Nothing. You go out first. I’ll grab something to wear and take a shower.”
He gave her a glance but didn’t ask more. He turned and left.
Anneliese let out a breath of relief and grabbed some lingerie. Since she couldn’t find anything else that could pass as sleepwear, she pulled out one of his shirts instead.
When she came out of the shower, Jonathan was standing by the floor–to–ceiling window, talking on the phone. His low, steady voice carried easily.
Hearing her, he turned. The moment his eyes landed on her by the bathroom door, his breathing grew heavier.
Her long, wavy hair was still damp, falling loosely around her shoulders. She wore an oversized white shirt.
The collar was slightly open, the sleeves rolled to her elbows. The hem only reached mid- thigh, leaving her straight, slender legs bare.
Her fair skin was still pink from the steam, and she stood there shyly, unaware of how she looked.
In that moment, Jonathan felt his grandmother wasn’t helping him at all–she was trying to drive him crazy.
He couldn’t take his eyes off her. Anneliese, already embarrassed, grew even more uncomfortable under his stare, curling her toes inside her slippers.

Luckily, Jonathan gave her a small nod and turned back to finish his call.
Anneliese hurried to the bed, lifted the covers, and climbed in. She moved too quickly and bumped her head on the headboard. She rubbed her forehead, gritting her teeth, but didn’t make a sound.
Jonathan was still on the phone, but he wasn’t listening to the report anymore. The little noises she made behind him played out in his head as clear images.
His lips curved, and he let out a quiet laugh.
The project manager on the other end was thrilled.
Wow, our newly finalized plan made Mr. Fullbuster this satisfied?
“That’s all for now. Thanks for your work.”
Jonathan hung up, and when he turned, Anneliese was lying on her side scrolling through her phone.
He walked into the dressing room, then soon opened the bathroom door and went in.
The sound of running water came from inside. Anneliese lifted her head and glanced that way.
Earlier, she had already asked the night nurse about her grandma’s condition. Everything was stable. Her grandma had woken up for a few minutes, then peacefully fallen back asleep. Relieved, Anneliese tucked her phone under the pillow, closed her eyes, and tried to sleep. As long as she slept, the next time she opened her eyes, it would be morning.
