She paused. “I only fear my sister acted in a moment of anger. If the White family really goes bankrupt, she’ll regret it. We’re still family, after all.
If Mr. Fullbuster continues to pressure us, it won’t reflect well on his own reputation either. Don’t you
think so, Mrs. Fullbuster?”
She chose her words carefully.
No mother would tolerate her son being strung along by a woman like that–divorced, with checkered past and a questionable reputation.

She simply nodded and said, “I understand.”

Elizabeth set down her cup and sighed as she gazed out the window.
The butler knew her well.
“You’re thinking about Ms. Claude, aren’t you?”
After all, Anneliese had never met Elizabeth or Jonathan’s grandfather.
Even if they were legally married, she hardly counted as the young madam of the family.
“She grew up in an orphanage and has already been through a failed marriage. What on earth does Jonathan see in her?
“He went and tied the knot without telling anyone, and even the old lady just went along with it!”
Elizabeth knew Jonathan had brought his wife to meet his grandmother last night, and that they’d gotten along.
The butler didn’t dare comment much.
“I’m sure Mr. Fullbuster will introduce you guys sooner or later. Perhaps Ms. Claude is an exceptional lady.”
“Her name rings a bell. Where have I heard it before?”
