Jonathan looked at him with disdain. “Anne is only 22. I’ll be with her when she’s 82, 42, until she’s 100. We have 70 or 80 years ahead of us. Compared to that, your so–called 14 years of the past are nothing but pathetic. Stop bringing them up.”
Under the dim lights of the private room, Zacharias‘ handsome face looked pale.
Selina, covered in cream, struggled uncomfortably in his arms.
Zacharias finally pulled his gaze away, ready to turn and leave with her.
Jonathan’s voice came again, “Anne didn’t prepare a birthday gift for you, Mr. Shaw, but I did prepare a generous one. I just don’t know if you dare accept it.”
The challenge in his tone was obvious.
Zacharias had been humiliated all night. He couldn’t back down.
He sneered. “What wouldn’t I dare accept? Let’s see what you have, Mr. Fullbuster.”
The corner of Jonathan’s lips curved into a faintly wicked smile. “See you at the parking lot in 10 minutes.”
Zacharias scoffed. “I didn’t expect you to be so dramatic. Fine. See you there.”
With that, he carried Selina out.
After they left, Anneliese tilted her head up at Jonathan, astonished.
“You knew today was his birthday? You really have a gift for him?”
Jonathan raised a brow playfully. “You’ll know soon enough.”
Ten minutes later, having hastily cleaned herself up, Selina wrapped a coat around her, damp hair still clinging to her face as she followed Zacharias to the parking lot.
Inside the Bentley, Anneliese sat in the back seat, nestled in Jonathan’s arms.
As Zacharias approached, she grew nervous and clutched Jonathan’s hand.
“You’re not planning to run him over, are you?”

It wasn’t an unreasonable guess. She couldn’t understand why Jonathan wanted to meet Zacharias at the parking lot. There was nothing here that could count as a gift.
“What nonsense. Am I that violent?”
Jonathan narrowed his eyes, the darkness within flickering.
Truthfully, he would’ve loved to–best if Zacharias were crushed to dust.
“Then what is it?” Anneliese exhaled in relief, her curiosity piqued.
Jonathan didn’t answer. Instead, he lowered the back window, tipped his chin at Zacharias, and said coolly, “Follow me.”
With that, he ordered Zion to drive.
Zion clearly knew the destination, pulling the car out without question.
Behind them, Jessica rode with Zane, while Carter and Joel followed in another car.
Zacharias saw them all leaving and headed for his own car.
Selina tugged on him anxiously. “Zach, maybe we should let it go. Mr. Fullbuster clearly wants to humiliate us for Anne’s sake. Why…”
She wanted to ask why he wanted to walk straight into Jonathan’s trap.
Zacharias was too prideful to back down. He cut her off coldly, “Enough.”
He would not admit defeat.
“Don’t follow me,” he added, climbing into the driver’s seat.
Selina bit her lip, then opened the passenger door and slipped in anyway.
Fastening her seatbelt, she took his hand firmly.
“How could I leave you to face it alone? No matter if it’s a trap or humiliation, I’ll endure it with you.”
Her voice trembled, but her grip was tight.
In the dim car, Zacharias looked at her pale face, her damp hair sticking to her cheeks and neck. Although her hand shook with fear, she still chose to stay.

Selina is kind, empathetic, and always willing to share his burden.
Why can’t Anneliese be the same?

Anneliese had drunk two glasses of wine. Rocked by the car, she dozed off in Jonathan’s arms.
When the car stopped, she stirred, her eyes hazy. “We’re here?”
“Yes. Do you want to sleep a little longer? You don’t need to get out.” Jonathan patted her shoulder gently, his voice low, coaxing her to rest.
Still half–asleep but curious, Anneliese rubbed her eyes and leaned against him, peering out the window.
“This is… Sunrise Residence?”
She froze. This was the home she once shared with Zacharias.
Why has Jonathan brought them here?
Knock, knock.
The window was tapped twice. Zacharias had parked and was walking toward them.
