Chapter 385 Jealousy
Thinking of this, Anneliese bit her lip.
“Actually, I’ve never done anything like this for Zacharias-”
Before she could finish, Jonathan’s deep voice cut her off.
“Well, you must be regretting it now.”
Anneliese froze.
There was no point trying to reason with him, for he couldn’t be appeased today.

She picked up her glass of wine, but before she could take a sip, a large hand clamped over it.
Looking at the man causing trouble, Anneliese could only watch as he set the glass back on the table.
“Terrible wine. If you drink it, you’ll start lying again, saying I’m the best husband and greatest love. I might actually start believing it,” he uttered coldly.
Anneliese’s ears burned with embarrassment, feeling conflicted.

She touched her slightly empty stomach and muttered softly, “What am I supposed to have, then?”
Jonathan lifted the salad from the table, offering it to her with a faint smile.
“Have this.”
“What?” Anneliese frowned at the bland salad.
“If you find it plain, you could add more vinegar to it.”
He poured the entire small dish of apple cider vinegar into her salad.
Under his watchful gaze, she ate it all, the sharp taste filling her mouth.
After their meal, he got someone to take her to the hospital to see her grandmother, while he drove back to the company.
Both cars went in opposite directions.

Inside, Anneliese watched the familiar Bentley drive away in the rearview mirror, and she quickly called Jessica to vent.
“I swear, Jonathan can be super grumpy. His mood swings are insane!”
On the other end, Jessica couldn’t help but chuckle at Anneliese being forced to eat an entire bowl of salad dipped in vinegar.
“What are you laughing at?” Anneliese asked, flustered.
Jessica laughed for a while before replying, “Oh, you’re beyond saving. Jonathan’s angry because you’re not jealous enough!”
“What?” Anneliese paused, thinking it over.
After she’d said she wasn’t jealous and even thanked his exes, his expression turned dark and
stormy.
“Why does he want me to be jealous, though? Aren’t men usually annoyed when women hold on to exes and get jealous for no reason?”
She frowned, feeling like something was off.
Jessica rolled her eyes.
“You can’t just refuse to get jealous. If you show no jealousy at all, it looks like you don’t care about him. He wouldn’t like that!”
Anneliese, just beginning to understand, froze when Jessica continued, “Besides, Anne–are you really not at all jealous?”
Anneliese was caught off guard.
Jessica smiled knowingly when Anneliese didn’t respond.
She didn’t push further, for some things had to be figured out on one’s own.
Too much interference wasn’t helpful.
Jessica knew Anneliese well enough to understand that she wasn’t slow, dim, or pretending to
be naive.
She had just been deeply hurt in a relationship spanning over ten years, and had wrapped herself up, afraid to feel too much or get too close.

Suddenly, someone appeared behind her.
“What are you smiling at?”
It was Zane.
Jessica had invited him to dinner, and he’d just run into someone he knew.

After a quick chat, he entered the private room to find Jessica leaning against the window, smiling giddily while on the phone.
Jessica looked up.
“It’s nothing. I just realized men can be super childish, no matter how composed they seem.”
Even someone like Jonathan, who seemed so calculating and composed, wasn’t an exception.
Zane grinned as he stepped forward.
In one smooth motion, he wrapped his arms around Jessica’s waist and lifted her up.
Jessica instinctively wrapped her legs around his waist, her back pressing against the floor–to- ceiling window of the restaurant.
“Who are you talking about?” Zane asked, teasingly stern.
Jessica glanced behind her.
They were in the private room on the second floor, and the window overlooked the restaurant’s entrance.
It was peak dining time, and if anyone looked up, they could see her being held like this.
Even Jessica, who was usually unbothered, felt a little embarrassed.
She tapped his shoulders.
“I was just kidding. Put me down.”
Zane chuckled lightly.
“Is that so? Jessica, are you two–timing me?”
