Chapter 388 Apologize
Zacharias interrupted them in a low, commanding voice.
Melody and Lenora froze.
“If she’s not here for us, then why did she come along?”
Selina felt embarrassed about mentioning her parents‘ mess and merely forced a smile.
“I’ve got something to attend to. You should head home first. I’ll come visit another day, alright?”
With that, she turned and entered the police station.
Melody and Lenora got into the car, ready to go home and rest.
However, Zacharias announced, “We’re heading to the hospital.”

“The hospital? Zacharias, Mom and I are fine. We may have been under constant surveillance, interrogated, lectured, and deprived of proper food and sleep, but we don’t need a doctor.
“We just want to go home, shower, and have a proper meal!”
Lenora frowned in protest, and Melody slumped against the seat weakly, muttering, “Let’s go home, son.”
Zacharias furrowed his brows.
“Ms. Morris has been transferred to a regular ward. You’re going there now to kneel and apologize.”
“What?”
“Zacharias, are you crazy?”
As soon as he spoke, sharp protests filled the car.
Zacharias‘ frown deepened.
“You don’t seriously think being bailed out means it’s over, do you?”
Melody covered her forehead, groaning.

“That old woman’s fine! Her health problems are her own fault. What does it have to do with us? We’ve been put through enough alreadyt
She pounded the seat angrily.
Seeing them like this, Zacharias pulled the car to the roadside, exhaustion written on his face. He said coldly, “Ms. Morris survived only because she was treated in time. The doctors records prove how critical her condition was–every detail is evidence.
“Nurses and even people in the ward can testify. You saw her collapse and didn’t call for help. When a nurse finally did, you tried to slip away in the chaost
He was seething.
“Anne’s got an extremely competent lawyer. That lawyer is ruthless enough to have once had the opposing counsel sent in with the defendant!
“He’s gathered all the evidence and a bunch of witnesses. You should be grateful Ms. Morris survived the ordeal. Otherwise, you would be facing homicide charges!”
He added, “I spent so much money and effort to get you bailed out. If you don’t try winning their forgiveness, don’t be surprised when the trial comes–you could easily face a decade or more in prison.”
He deliberately made the situation sound worse, wanting to scare his mother and sister. However, he wasn’t bluffing, and the situation wasn’t far from the truth.
Lenora and Melody froze, their faces drained of color.
Zacharias continued, his voice low and stern, “Ms. Morris is a softie. When you get there. apologize sincerely. As long as she agrees to let you off, Anne will respect her decision.”
This time, Melody and Lenora nodded repeatedly.
At the hospital, Anneliese stayed by her grandmother’s side, watching Carter check on her.
“How is she, Dr. Chevalier?”
Seeing Carter put away the stethoscope and straighten up, Anneliese immediately stepped forward.
“She’s recovering very well, and your grandmother is doing great. Relax, take good care of her, and don’t upset her again.

After Dr. Chevalier left, Anneliese held her grandmother’s hand and bent over the hospital bed, letting her tears fall freely.
Her grandmother didn’t say much.
She gently stroked Anneliese’s hair with her rough, wrinkled hands.
After a while, Anneliese calmed down.
Red–eyed, full of guilt and fear, she lifted her head. “I’m sorry, Grandma. It’s all my fault…”
“The only thing you’ve done wrong—”
Hearing her grandmother’s weak voice made Anneliese’s heart ache. She had almost endangered Nishay’s life, and it was natural for her grandmother to be angry at her.
However, she was caught off guard by Nishay’s next words.
“Your mistake was always telling me only the good news, and never the bad. Tell me, how have you really been these past few years in Oceaton?”
Her grandmother was still weak, and she struggled to catch her breath as she spoke.
Yet, her eyes were full of concern, not at all blaming Anneliese.
Tears formed in Anneliese’s eyes.
Instead of hiding the truth, she quickly explained what had happened regarding the Whites and the Shaws.
Over the years, whenever she returned to Baytree, called, or messaged, Anneliese had only shared good news.
Her grandmother, due to her health, had only visited Baytree once.
She suspected Anneliese had some hidden troubles, and she guessed the White family favored the daughter they’d been raising instead.
However, she never realized how serious it was until Anneliese cut ties with them.
