The food was good, and the dishes tasted great. Yet, Jonathan rarely set foot in the staff cafeteria. Whenever he arrived, the atmosphere became stiff and awkward.
He had only been there three times, and each visit ended with some kind of mishap.
The first time, a flight attendant nearly crashed into him with a tray.

The second time, a woman from the PR department at the next table kept spraying perfume, practically marinating him in the scent.
The third time, the project director snagged a seat at his table and spent the entire meal bragging about his beautiful college–aged daughter. Even Zion found the experiences scarring.
After that, Jonathan decided it was easier to stay away.
As they approached the cafeteria doors, the sound of gossip floated out.
“With Mr. Fullbuster’s looks and family background, if I were Mrs. Fullbuster, I’d be here every day. That way, all those pretty flight attendants, pilots, and PR girls would stop dreaming.”
“Mrs. Fullbuster is way too chill. Maybe she’s just not presentable.”
“She could be a divorced older woman who’s too embarrassed to show up.”
“Come on, Mr. Fullbuster has high standards. She’s probably a classy heiress from some low–profile family.”
“Then, why doesn’t she ever show her face?”
“There are only two possibilities. Either she doesn’t love him, or she really can’t be seen in public.”
“Mr. Fullbuster clearly loves his wife. He made a big deal of their marriage, gave everyone in the company a gift, and now he’s driving her car to work to show it off. Even if she’s divorced, she must be sharp and know how to handle things. You should stop being so bitter,”
“Who’s bitter? We’re just talking. Honestly, Mrs. Fullbuster doesn’t seem particularly interested in him. Maybe she’s just after his money.”
“That’s not fair. Maybe she’s after his good looks.”
Zion stood behind Jonathan, listening to every word.
His scalp tingled. When someone claimed Anneliese didn’t love him, the air around Jonathan seemed to drop below freezing, as if he could turn the entire room into aur icebox.
Jonathan’s lips curled into a cold smile, followed by a short, sharp laugh. Without a word, he turned and walked away.

One of the workers closest to the door peeked out, went pale, and whispered, “Oh no! That was Mr. Harland at the door. He definitely heard us!”
“No way. You must be mistaken. Why would Mr. Harland come here? He’s glued to Mr. Fullbuster twenty- four seven. Wait–was Mr. Fullbuster just here too?”
Everyone exchanged nervous looks, their faces falling. Moments later, they scattered like startled birds.
By the time Jonathan returned to his office, his face was like thunder. Zion followed nervously, only for the office door to slam shut right at his nose.
He trudged back to the secretary’s office, looking miserable.
One of the other secretaries looked up in surprise. “Weren’t you supposed to have lunch with Mr. Fullbuster? Why are you back so soon?”
“Some people just can’t keep their mouths shut.” Zion sighed.
“You mean the gossip about Mrs. Fullbuster? Did Mr. Fullbuster hear it? Honestly, there’s a simple solution.
“Everyone’s curious about his wife–curious about the kind of woman who managed to snag him. Just have her come to the company once, and it’ll all be settled.”
He was clearly curious himself.
Zion’s eyes lit up. He could guess what Jonathan had in mind. When Anneliese was trending online, Jonathan had the PR department on standby and the official announcement ready to go.
All he wanted was her permission to make it public that she was his.
She wasn’t interested at the time, so nothing happened.
Now, just a couple of days later, he’d overheard staff gossiping that She didn’t care about him or love him. No wonder he was furious.
Things between them had been going well lately. Getting her to visit the company might actually be the perfect move. The only issue was coming up with a good reason to get her there.
By the time Anneliese finished recording, two sets of data, the lab was already empty. She picked up her phone and saw several messages from Penelope, who had sent her a selection of wedding dresses in different styles and brands.
She tapped on a voice message, and Penelope’s warm, affectionate voice filled the room.
