Penelope was one of the few elders who had taken care of Wendy before. So even though they hadn’t seen each other for many years, Wendy was still very warm and polite.
Penelope laughed and said, “Then I’ll just say it. It’s all because of my useless grandson. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Jonathan got married. That kid has no sense at all. He’s making my sweet granddaughter–in–law suffer. He doesn’t even know how to plan a proper wedding.
“My granddaughter–in–law is shy. She would never ask for anything herself. She’s a busy girl too, but we can’t let her be wronged, can we? Jonathan’s parents can’t be counted on. You know that. So I, this old woman, have to take care of everything. I was wondering if you could design two wedding dresses for my granddaughter–in–law. If you’re too busy, one main gown would be enough.”
Penelope kept talking, but Wendy didn’t seem impatient. She smiled and said, “I heard about it. Congratulations, you’ve got such a lovely granddaughter–in–law. I’m also one of Jonathan’s elders. I never got to design a wedding dress for my own daughter–in–law, so if I can design one for Jonathan’s wife, it’ll satisfy my own wish. I should thank you for giving me the chance and trusting me. Don’t just say two gowns. However many you want, I’ll design them all.”
Even though Steven already had a daughter, he had never been married. No one had ever seen Ellie’s mother, and no one knew what had happened.
But Penelope didn’t take Wendy’s words too seriously. She knew Wendy was very busy. That kind of talk was just polite. People said Wendy rarely designed dresses herself anymore, maybe once a year.
The one she designed last year had ended up on a princess from Xelovia and made a stunning appearance at the royal wedding.
Penelope chuckled happily. “Two are enough!

Wendy said, “Then let’s set up a time so I can meet your granddaughter–in–law. I need to get a sense of her personality before I start designing. I’m also really curious to see what kind of woman made Jonathan
settle down.
Penelope replied, “Alright, I’ll confirm the time and contact you.”
After hanging up, Wendy stood there holding her phone, staring blankly out the window at the falling

Her assistant came over and draped a cashmere shawl over her thin shoulders. “It’s been snowing and freezing these past few days. You need to take care of yourself.”
Wendy’s health had never been good. She adjusted the shawl and turned to smile at her assistant. Though she was already in her fifties and had noticeable wrinkles around her eyes, she still looked elegant and beautiful

Wendy just smiled and said nothing. She turned back toward the window. The faint sadness around her didn’t fade away.
The person she had most wanted to design a wedding dress for was already gone.
If her daughter had still been alive, she would have been in her prime this year. It would have been time for her to get married.
In the president’s office of AeroAir, Jonathan went back to his office and didn’t even feel like eating lunch. He picked up the unfinished files and started flipping through them.
After a few pages, he realized he was being terribly inefficient. He couldn’t even remember what he had just read.
He pulled at his tie and rubbed his tense forehead.
He picked up his phone and checked it.
There was no new message from Anneliese on WhatsApp, and she hadn’t called either.
The last thing in their chat was the photo she sent that morning of the snowman she built. She had a bright smile on her face and sent a cute cat heart emoji along with it.
How could she not love him? How could she not care about him?
People around him had no idea. Anneliese clearly liked him. She had told him herself just last night.
But maybe it was like when a delicious dessert was right in front of someone. Once a person got a taste of the sweetness, it became impossible to stop. They would want it all for themselves.
He had become greedy. He wanted her love. He wanted her to love him deeply.
He couldn’t help comparing himself to Zacharias, thinking about how she had once given up her dreams. to follow him everywhere.
