It was clear that Jonathan had heard those bad rumors. Otherwise, that kind of announcement would never have been made.
For a while, all the gossip stopped. Instead, everyone in the company became convinced that Jonathan and his wife had a loving relationship. That belief settled deep in every employee’s mind.
Anneliese had no idea that she had become the target of envy and jealousy among many female employees at AeroAir.
She went back to the lab and finished several sets of composite wing tests. She measured thermal deformation under simulated high temperatures and tested the delamination risks of composite materials. When she walked back to the shared office area with the test data in hand, Gianna came in carrying a small purse.
Anneliese almost bumped into her at the door. Gianna stepped aside. “Be careful. Anneliese.”
Anneliese had been too focused on the data to notice her.
She gave a small smile. ‘Sorry, I’ll be careful next time.”
Gianna felt like she had hit a wall. It was worse because the senior researchers in the office looked over, which made her seem petty.
She was sure Anneliese had done that on purpose.
They just could not get along. Every time they met, it felt like bad luck.
Gianna smiled and said, “Anneliese, are you also joining the National Low–Altitude Logistics Algorithm Challenge after the New Year?”
“Also?” Anneliese caught that word right away.
Gianna smiled again. “Yeah, I’m interested too.”
She’s going to join the challenge?
Anneliese was not worried, but she did find it strange. Last time, when Alexander gave her the registration form, it clearly said the challenge required a recommendation.
Since Alexander had already recommended her, it would not make sense for him to recommend Gianna
- 100.
“Did Prof. Clocke not recommend you?” Anneliese asked.
Gianna smiled proudly. “I don’t need a recommendation. If I want to join, I can just sign up. Anneliese, I won’t go easy on you then. You’d better be ready”
She was the Malone family’s heiress. The challenge was co–hosted by the Air Traffic Control Committee and several logistics companies.
Her brother was the spokesperson for the Air Traffic Control Committee, and her father was the CEO of a

logistics giant. For her, a qualification others worked hard to get was nothing. With insiders willing to help, it only took a few words to get everything arranged. Why would she need a recommendation?
Only someone like Anneliese, who had no family background, would ask such a question.
Even if she had become Jonathan’s wife because of her looks, she was still narrow–minded and unrefined. Gianna could not understand why Jonathan liked her.
With a quiet sneer, she turned and walked into the office first.
She was determined to win first place in the challenge.
She did not believe that Anneliese, who had been out of the field for so long, could still keep up.
She had been observing her for the past few days too.
Anneliese always aimed too high and was never practical. She had not spent time preparing for the challenge. Instead, she was busy working on improvements to the composite wings.
Alexander had already led them through many experiments on that. With the current material technology, there was no room for major improvement.
Trying to stand out like that was ridiculous.
In Gianna’s eyes, Anneliese was out of touch with modern research. She had chosen an impossible project just to look busy. When it failed, she could easily blame the outcome on the experiment being difficult for everyone.
Alexander had recommended Anneliese for the national challenge to help her prove herself.
So Gianna decided to join too, to defeat Anneliese during the competition and show Alexander that Anneliese no longer deserved her place in the lab.
She wanted to make Anneliese leave once and for all.
Anneliese looked at Gianna’s back and raised an eyebrow, not caring at all. She lowered her head again to check the data she had just recorded.
Soon, it was time to clock out. Gianna used her connections to get internal materials and information about the competition process.
It made her even more confident. Before leaving, she glanced around the office and did not see Anneliese. It looked like she had gone back into the testing area.
Gianna let out a small laugh and walked out without looking back.
When she arrived at the Malone family’s home in Occaton, the housekeeper, Maven Grant, greeted her with a smile. “Welcome home, Ms. Malone. Your father and your brother are both here today. The kitchen made your favorite seared short rib and foie gras. The foie gras is the freshest. Mr. Malone brought it back from his business trip just for you.”
