‘Such a shame! If anyone managed to get a recording, please share–it really sounded like a voice from a dream! Too bad the captain never showed his face. Still, when we disembarked, the co–pilot personally handed every passenger a thoughtful gift and a commemorative certificate.
And the best part? The co–pilot’s a total queen–stunning and so cool! Pictures attached!
‘P.S. The certificate even had the captain’s signature–can someone tell me if this is AeroAir’s mysterious CEO?‘
The post came with several photos. One showed the co–pilot handing out gifts–a distant shot, but Anneliese recognized her instantly.
It was India.
Wearing her pilot uniform, India looked composed, sharp, and radiant with confidence. Even through the screen, her presence was captivating. However, Jonathan had never mentioned that India would be on this flight with him. Remembering the nonsense Gianna had spouted before, Anneliese’s heart sank.
She scrolled to the next photo–sure enough, the commemorative certificate bore Jonathan’s unmistakable signature. She’d seen it before while assisting him at work–bold, fluid strokes that carried the precision of years of calligraphy practice.
In the comments below, the discussion was already exploding.
‘It’s him! AeroAir’s young CEO–also the heir to the Fullbuster family! He’s a captain too?! What kind of cheat–code life is this?‘
‘A total boss–imagine flying on a plane piloted by the richest man himself. That’s a lifetime brag!‘
A lifetime? Nah, that’s at least worth three lifetimes.‘
‘When’s AeroAir’s next maiden flight? Tell me when the CEO’s flying again–I’m waiting!‘
‘Young CEO captain and badass co–pilot queen–this pairing is everything!”
“The co–pilot’s stunning! Blogger, any inside scoop? Are they really not a couple?‘
‘I’m telling you, something’s definitely going on. Why else would the CEO personally fly the maiden voyage? Total power couple vibes!‘

The more Anneliese read, the heavier her chest felt. She tossed her phone aside, unable to bear it any longer.
But after a few restless minutes, she picked it up again. Opening WhatsApp, she saw that Jonathan still hadn’t replied to her message from last night–her simple ‘Congratulations on the successful flight.‘
A wave of frustration and unease surged through her. Her stomach clenched, sourness rising to her throat. She barely slept that night.
The next morning, her alarm jolted her awake. Her eyes felt dry and gritty, her head foggy with exhaustion. Without thinking, she reached for her phone–still no calls, no messages. The chat thread remained frozen at her lone text.
And before she could stop herself, her mind started spinning. Images flashed–Jonathan and India together, perhaps celebrating after the flight, maybe too busy–or too close–to message her back.
“Stop it!” Anneliese smacked her forehead. “Don’t be ridiculous.”
She rushed into the bathroom, trying to drown out her thoughts under the sound of running water. She’d promised herself to trust him.
Jonathan had always treated her with such care and sincerity; it was unfair to doubt him based on nothing but speculation. Zacharias had hurt her before, but Jonathan wasn’t him.
Still, despite her self–reminders, she spent the entire day distracted, checking her phone every few minutes. Even Nishay noticed.
“Anne, are you in love?” Nishay asked suddenly over dinner.
Anneliese froze, then forced a smile. “No, Grandma…”
“No? You’ve been daydreaming all day. Who are you waiting to hear from? You think I don’t know you? Don’t lie to me.”
Anneliese met her gaze. “Really, it’s nothing. It’s almost New Year’s–just don’t want to miss any holiday messages, that’s all. Here, try the snowball cookies I made–they turned out perfect
this time.”
Nishay studied her for a moment, then let it go with a nod. If her granddaughter truly was in

love, that was a good thing. She only hoped Anneliese wouldn’t fall into another pit like the one Zacharias had dug.
“Invite Jess to stay for the New Year,” Nishay said gently. “It’s lonely spending the holiday alone. The three of us can make it a warm one together.”
