Melanie nodded. “We asked Anne over and over to come with us, but she refused. She cried and begged us not to go. There was really nothing we could do.”
Zacharias frowned and stared at Selina, his eyes sharp. “Didn’t you say Anne got on the plane? You lied to me!”
Selina’s face went pale, but she lifted her chin stubbornly. “Zach, if you think I had bad intentions, then I have nothing more to say.”
Christopher quickly pushed Zacharias back and pulled Selina into his arms angrily. “Why are you yelling at Selina? She told us she wanted to invite Anneliese.
“Anne refused, and we didn’t want Selina to feel sad, so we told her Anne got on the plane.”
When Zacharias heard this, he realized he had misunderstood Selina. He looked guilty. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have taken it out on you.”
Selina’s eyes turned red, but she spoke gently. “I know you argued with Anne and you’re worried about her, so you lost your temper. Anne is lucky to have someone who cares about her like you.
“She’s my sister. I couldn’t be happier for her, so how could I blame you?”
Perseus patted Zacharias‘ shoulder and said, “Zacharias, look at how forgiving and thoughtful Selina is. You’ve spoiled Anne too much. You always lower yourself to please her, and that’s why she’s become like this, doing whatever she wants.”
Selina noticed Zacharias‘ expression darken and quickly tugged on Perseus‘ sleeve.
“Perseus, don’t say that. Anne isn’t like me. She’s sensitive and needs more love to feel secure. Zach spoiling her isn’t wrong. Let’s not talk about this anymore. You all just had a long flight, so you must be exhausted. Go rest first.”
She spoke softly, linking arms with Melanie as they started walking, but Zacharias didn’t move. He frowned. “Timothy, Melanie, please rest well. I’m going back home.”
He suddenly realized it had been several days since he’d had a real conversation with Anneliese. And it had been seven or eight days since she had reached out to him.
That wasn’t right, and the uneasy feeling in his chest kept getting stronger

His instincts told him he had to go back immediately. He needed to see her. If he waited any longer, he feared she would really be angry and ignore him.
Selina’s expression changed. “Zacharias, you’re not coming to my birthday party?”

Zacharias gave her a nod and turned to head quickly toward the ticketing hall.
Selina let go of Melanie’s arm and ran after Zacharias. She grabbed his arm, and her steps faltered.
He turned quickly, and she fell into his chest.
He caught her instinctively.
Selina looked up at him, her eyes showing hesitation, like she wanted to say something but couldn’t.
“What is it?”
“Zach, actually… these past two years, the one who rented the Spectra Square screen for my birthday–I know it was you.”
Zacharias froze, his gaze unsteady. His lips parted slightly. “It wasn’t. You-”
“Don’t deny it. I’m sure it was you. I’m not saying this to compete with Anne for anything. I just want you to know I was really happy. Every year, I looked forward to those wishes from far

She lowered her head and rubbed her sore arm where he had grabbed her.
When Anneliese woke up, daylight was shining brightly outside the window. The room was very quiet.
Her lashes trembled as she opened her eyes, seeing the plain white ceiling above her.
