Under the blanket, Anneliese’s fingers twisted nervously. She kept her head down, still trying to prepare herself, when Jonathan walked up to her bed. His tall figure cast a shadow over her.
“Do you remember what happened last night?”
Anneliese stayed quiet.
Why did he have to start with such a tough question?
She bit her lip and finally lifted her head to look at him, speaking softly.
“If I said I didn’t remember anything, and was shocked to see you here this morning… would you hit me?”
Jonathan’s lips curved slightly. “You can try.”
“Alright, I do remember a little. I know you saved me, but after leaving the hotel, I don’t remember anything.”
Her words faded, and the room fell silent again.
Jonathan didn’t speak. His expression and eyes were hard for Anneliese to read.
Almost like he felt wronged.
She thought that was ridiculous. She blinked, and when she looked again, he was the same as always, cold and unreadable.
Anneliese pressed her lips together and finally broke the silence.
“Well… I’m really grateful. Thank you for helping me yesterday. After that, you brought me straight to the hospital, right? Nothing else happened on the way?”
She couldn’t help but ask directly. She couldn’t stay in the dark forever.
Jonathan was about to open the food container he had brought, but his hand paused slightly
when he heard her.
In his mind, images flashed of her refusing to let go, sitting on his lap, demanding kisses, squirming in his arms….

She had treated him like a tool, using him for some temporary relief. The sight of her flushed face and damp hair as she clung to him, breathless against his neck…
He hadn’t been able to control her. He hadn’t wanted to hurt her, but in the end, he couldn’t take it and knocked her out.
His Adam’s apple moved as he swallowed. Slowly, he scooped a bowl of chicken and mushroom porridge with vegetables, then looked at her. His eyes were calm, but his words. went straight to the point.
“You want to know if I touched you?”
“Cough! No, that’s not what I meant. I trust you’re a gentleman! You saved me, and if I still doubted you, what kind of person would that make me?”
Anneliese waved her hands quickly, so anxious she was about to swear an oath.
Jonathan pulled out two napkins, placed them on the bowl to keep the heat in, and handed it to her.
She took it carefully, surprised. Her palm was injured and wrapped in bandages, so she was clumsy when holding it. He didn’t rush her and added,
“Don’t worry.
You’re clean.”
Anneliese lowered her head, her lashes trembling, and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
She hadn’t even figured out her marriage with Zacharias yet. The last thing she wanted was to end up in an affair.
Otherwise, wouldn’t she be just like Zacharias?
But her relief didn’t last long.
Jonathan’s cool voice sounded again.
“But I’m not clean anymore.”
Anneliese froze.
What did he mean by that?
What had she done to him?
Her heart, which had just calmed down, shot back up to her throat.

Her hand trembled, almost spilling the porridge.
Jonathan steadied the bowl in his own hand. “Does your hand hurt?”
Anneliese quickly nodded, trying to cover up her awkwardness and nerves.

She wanted to suggest waiting until the porridge cooled, but Jonathan had already pulled a chair over and sat down by the bed.
“Looks like you want me to feed you.”
Before she could shake her head, a spoonful of porridge was already at her lips.
Her cheeks turned red, and she didn’t dare open her mouth.
She felt guilty, half afraid the porridge was poisoned, half afraid of upsetting him and getting tossed out of a plane at ten thousand feet.
In the end, the porridge still went in, though she didn’t taste anything at all.
Her hesitant expression made Jonathan’s lips lift slightly, and he let out a low, unreadable laugh.
Anneliese’s scalp tingled at his laugh. She couldn’t hold it in anymore and looked up weakly at him.
“Did I cross the line?”
“Not too much…”
Anneliese let out a small breath of relief, the corners of her lips curving up.
“If you don’t count the part where you kissed me.”
Anneliese was stunned,
“Can you please just say everything at once?!” She was flustered and annoyed.
“You’re getting mad at me?” Jonathan raised an eyebrow.
“I…”
Before Anneliese could defend herself, he spoke again.
