Chapter 11

landon’s expression froze, and he looked like he was about to explode. “What nonsense are you talking about?”

Seeing his defensive expression, Melody’s heart ached again. “Answer me!”

Landon flinched, instantly realizing she must have found something out. His tone suddenly became calm. “So what if I am?”

Melody’s eyes immediately turned red. “You got together with me just to make Skylar give up, and as soon as she does, you’ll throw me away without a second thought, won’t you?”

After being stared at by her desperate eyes for a long time, Landon’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and he slowly said, “That’s right.”

It had been the plan all along, but admitting it to her face, Landon found himself surprisingly flustered.

Melody closed her eyes and let out a desolate laugh. “So it’s not that you don’t have a heart, it’s just you gave it all to Skylar.”

She choked out, “Then what about me?”

After asking, she found it laughable. How could she still dare to hope for any genuine feelings from him?

After a long pause, Landon spoke. “I did warn you to think it over before deciding.”

He didn’t necessarily have to use Melody to drive Skylar away. That morning, he had given her a chance to back out. He just hadn’t expected her to like him so much that after three days, she still said yes.

At this moment, she finally saw his cold, heartless nature for what it was.

He had once been the moon, high and unreachable, shining so warmly down on her. But now, she knew that light had never been meant for her.

tear escaped and rolled down her cheek, pain shooting through her entire body. “If I break up with you right now, you won’t try to stop me, will you.”

His expression remained blank as he watched her silently. Finally, he uttered two light words, “Right. Whatever.”

With that, he turned and walked away.

Melody’s heart felt as if a piece of it had been brutally carved out. Tears instantly streamed down her face as all sorts of stares were directed at her from every lirection.

The next day, gossip that Landon Crow had dumped Melody Wolfe spread throughout the campus.

But Melody paid no attention. She locked herself in her dorm room and went nowhere, ignoring even Elodie when she came to talk. Around her roommates, he wore a pale, lifeless, and cold expression. Her tears only fell late at night.

What’s worse than losing something is thinking you once had it.

Only to find out in the end that you were just a supporting character all along. Even after giving everything you had, you never received even a shred of

enuine affection from him.

Zot only that, but someone posted photos on the campus forum of Leah attending class with Landon. They looked very close, as if they had already gotten back ogether.

Elodie watched Melody’s reaction cautiously. “It might be a misunderstanding.”

Melody’s eyes were numb. She shook her head, climbed back into bed, and pulled the covers over her head.

t was as if she had automatically blocked out everything related to Landon. Even when others on campus shot her gloating looks, or when she ran into his -x-girlfriends who said sarcastically, “And here I thought you were so special. Still got dumped just like the rest of us.”

Melody seemed not to hear or see any of it. She just quietly attended classes, studied, and ate. Only Elodie gradually understood what she was doing-she was Forcing herself to get used to being alone.

Before long, Melody handed a gift box to Elodie.

This was the birthday present I got for him. Can you give it to him for me?”

Chapter 11

Bodie tried to persuade her. “Mel, why don’t you give it to him yourself? Maybe this is all just a misunderstanding.”

Melody just shook her head silently. “There’s no point. I’m getting ready to study abroad.”
