At seven in the evening, to prepare for exams, Melody stayed at the library until closing time every day.
ust as she stepped out of the library, she saw a text from Elodie.
The Velvet Lounge, room 701. Landon’s here. Get here ASAP!”
seeing the message, she hesitated for a moment, but in the end, she couldn’t resist going to the karaoke bar.
The moment she opened the door to the private room, everyone inside turned to look at her. But Melody’s eyes immediately found Landon, slouched on the ofa and engrossed in his phone. He was the only one who didn’t look up.
lodie was the first to wave. “Mel! Over here!”
Melody walked towards her. There were only five people in the room, besides Elodie, they were all guys, friends of Landon’s. They were all there because andon’s good high school buddy, Lucas Holloway, had come to Northwood to visit.
he moment Lucas saw Melody, he thought she looked extremely familiar. “Hey, pretty girl, you look familiar.”
lodie threw a pillow at him. “Lucas, are you blind? This is Melody.”

lodie just rolled her eyes at Lucas and moved past the awkward moment with some loud banter.

few empty beer cans were scattered in front of him. Melody keenly sensed he was in a bad mood, and she knew it wasn’t her place to say anything. Still, she ouldn’t help herself. As Landon cracked open a new can, she spoke up.
You should stop drinking.”
[earing her voice, Landon looked at her with hazy eyes, raising an eyebrow with complete indifference. “Wanna join?”
Ielody thought that every sip she took was one less sip Landon would take, so she didn’t refuse. She opened a can and started chugging, but after only three econds, she began coughing violently. Luckily, in the noisy karaoke room, no one noticed.
ut Landon was staring intently at her. Seeing her round eyes turn red, he frowned and took the can from her hand. “If you can’t handle your alcohol, what are ou doing drinking?”

Melody looked up, a defiant spark compelling her to grab the can from Landon’s hand. As they struggled, the drink accidentally spilled all over his jacket.
I’m so sorry!” Melody immediately pulled out tissues and carefully tried to wipe it dry. Unconsciously, they were once again standing very close.
Landon stared at her. “Melody, do you have a crush on me?”
Melody’s hand froze, and the air seemed to stand still. But Landon, as if suddenly realizing something, let out a small laugh. “No, that’s not right. A good girl like you wouldn’t be into…”

Clearly, Landon was stunned. Just as he was about to speak, the room’s door was violently shoved open again.
A guy burst in, glaring at Landon with pure fury. Melody turned and saw that it was Seth Archer.
He was also a classmate from their high school, but he and Landon had never gotten along.
Seth walked closer, step by step. “Landon, today is Skylar’s birthday. She’s been waiting for you. Why didn’t you go?”
Landon retorted coolly, “Why should I?”
“You bastard!” Seth lunged forward and grabbed Landon by the collar. “She’s allergic to alcohol, but she’s out there getting wasted for you. Do you have any idea you almost killed her!”
Landon’s eyes instantly darkened to a frightening degree. “You let her drink?”
The guy who was always so emotionally detached had completely lost his composure over Seth’s words.
But Seth just shoved him away coldly. “Landon Crow, you really are a piece of shit!”
After he said his piece, he turned and left.
The room fell silent. Melody looked at the person beside her, whose dark mood felt suffocating. Before she could say anything, Landon muttered a curse under his breath and got up to leave as well.
Melody’s heart sank. She never imagined her all-or-nothing confession wouldn’t even get a response.
