Chapter 33
Although she had already guessed his intentions, his sudden and direct confession still made Melody a bit shy.
“Landon, be serious. This is a workplace.”
“I am being serious.” Landon replied fearlessly.
Melody couldn’t help but look away, not daring to meet his intense gaze any longer.
She could clearly see the affection in his eyes, but she told herself not to look, not to think.
Seeing her avoiding his feelings again, Landon didn’t say anything. He told himself not to force things, to take it slow and wait for the right moment.
Otherwise, he was afraid that if he came on too strong, he would scare her into running away again, just like two years ago.
After that little interlude, they both quickly threw themselves into their work. The large office was no longer filled with their back-and-forth questions, only the rustling sound of pens on paper and the clicking of keyboards.
It was as if they had gone back two years, to those few afternoons they had spent together in the library.
At this point, with less than a month before the trial, time was tight and the task was heavy. Landon no longer had the heart to tease her.
So for that entire month, they didn’t talk about anything outside of work, preparing all the necessary materials for the trial side by side.
With Melody’s help, Landon’s efficiency improved significantly. Before, for major cases like this, he would inevitably have to work overtime non-stop.
But this time, with her assistance, he even managed to leave work on time every day. It was hard to say whether it was her presence that boosted his productivity or if the two of them were just incredibly in sync.
In any case, they spent the entire month working together peacefully, and their relationship eased up considerably. It was no longer like the beginning, where being in the same room felt so awkward and silent.
Now, after spending a month together day in and day out, Melody had grown somewhat accustomed to being in the same office with him, each focused on their
wn work.
On the day of the trial, Landon was dressed more formally than usual.
His black suit was impeccable, and he had even put some product in his usually soft hair, styling it simply, which made him look even more handsome.
Melody sat in the audience, watching Landon as the defense attorney, her thoughts drifting.
he couldn’t help but remember when she first started college, how she loved going to the law school’s debate competitions. Any debate Landon was in was lways packed three rows deep.
One reason was that he was good-looking, so many people came just to see him.
econd, he didn’t usually talk much, but on the debate stage, he was a completely different person. He was clearly the star of the team, often backing his pponents into a corner, leaving them speechless.
Landon on the debate stage-confident, charismatic, and unrestrained-was more charming than at any other time.
At this moment, Melody, just as she had two years ago, gazed softly at the brilliant man on the stage, the center of everyone’s attention.
t was just that now, Landon had shed some of his boyish immaturity and gained a kingly edge.
n a contentious defense, Landon was never the aggressive type. He would never resort to angry tirades. He was always forceful and resounding in his counterarguments, explanations, and eloquent speeches.
Some people seem to be born rulers. Just as in this grand courtroom, everyone’s eyes were irresistibly drawn to Landon, who was defending the plaintiff. As for Melody, her gaze hadn’t left him from the very beginning.
In her eyes, there was not only the eloquent Landon of today, but also the arrogant Landon from college, and the Landon from high school who had given her courage and strength.
Landon had always been so full of life, and he never stopped on his path to becoming better.
