Chapter 40
Twenty four long love letters, spanning two full years. The shock in Melody’s heart wouldn’t subside.
Melody suddenly remembered the flicker of disappointment in Landon’s eyes that day when he found out she hadn’t received the letters.
But in the end, he didn’t say anything, just smiled and said it was okay.
Melody knew all too well the bitter pain of having deep affection unreciprocated, yet Landon had acted completely unfazed.
Remembering what Elodie had said, about how she once found Landon at home, drunk, clutching the black sweater she had left behind and sobbing, Melody’s heart felt as if it were being pricked by countless needles.
Her heart ached for him.
En matters of love, the moment you start to feel pity, it means you’ve already lost the game.
But this time, Melody didn’t feel like she was the one who had lost.
Because his feelings for her were no less than hers for him.
At this moment, Melody no longer wanted to agonize over her feelings for Landon. She decided to face them bravely. She did, indeed, still love him.
Che couldn’t let him go, and right now, she didn’t want to anymore.
Melody didn’t care that it was already late at night. She threw on a jacket, grabbed her car keys, and went out the door.
The car sped through the streets, and soon, she was downstairs from Landon’s apartment.
Melody ran the rest of the way, eager to tell Landon everything that was on her mind.
At the sound of urgent knocking, a sleepy-eyed Landon came to open the door.
He didn’t even have a chance to see who it was before he was pulled into a full-body hug.
Melody’s voice, tinged with tears, sounded in his ear. “Landon…”
Only then did Landon realize that the person at his door was Melody.
He gently stroked her back, comforting her in a good-natured voice. “Yeah, I’m here. What happened? Why are you crying? Did you have a nightmare?”
Landon led Melody to the sofa to sit down and wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes.
By now, he was mostly awake. He looked at the pitifully tear-streaked Melody with concern and said softly, “Melody, you could have just called me to come over. t’s so late, it’s not safe for you to be out alone, okay?”
Seeing Landon being so gentle and considerate, Melody’s heart completely melted.
Che clutched the front of his shirt and said softly, “Landon, my friend in France found the letters you sent me these past two years. I just finished reading all of hem.”
Landon was a bit surprised, not expecting that Melody had come all this way for that reason.
At the time, when he found out she hadn’t received the letters, he had indeed been a bit disappointed.
But on second thought, the grievances she had suffered were far more serious than this, so he quickly let it go. Whether she saw the letters or not, his feelings For her wouldn’t change.
So, you believe my feelings for you now? I thought they were pretty obvious, that I wouldn’t need any external help. It seems I’m still not very good at Comforting girls.”
Landon had intended to lighten the mood, but seeing the miserable look on Melody’s face, he wiped the smile off his own.
Landon, I like you. These past two years, even though I tried so hard to forget you, it’s clear that I failed.”
There was never a moment that I stopped liking you, and I think it will be the same for the rest of my life.”
