Chapter 7
After the brief kiss, Melody gasped for air as if she had just surfaced, her heart pounding uncontrollably.
Landon, however, didn’t seem to have much of a reaction. It was just that in that moment, he’d really wanted to kiss her.
He said in a hoarse voice, “Wait for the rain to stop before you go.”
Melody quietly agreed. The thought of the kiss, and the fact that they were in a men’s dorm, made her face flush even redder. The moment the rain stopped, she hastily left.
After that day, their relationship seemed to have grown closer, and Melody was secretly happy about this change.
Until the department head found her and told her that the school had an opening for a study abroad program, and the department had decided to give it to her.
Jefore, Melody would have accepted without a second thought. But now, staring at the study abroad application, she couldn’t bring herself to say yes.
The department head hadn’t expected her to hesitate and tried to persuade her earnestly, “Melody, this is a very rare opportunity. Whatever your reasons, you eally need to seize it.”
he didn’t have a reason. She was just worried about Landon.
f she really went abroad, he would be all alone.
He had a lot of friends, but she felt that he was more afraid of being alone than anyone.
he had worked so hard to finally become his girlfriend. In the future, there would be more chances to get closer to his heart, to walk with him through the res of his life. Was she really going to choose to leave now?
wo years abroad, who knew what could happen.
n the end, Melody didn’t give in. She just said she needed more time to think and left with the application form.
ust as she finished packing a meal to bring to Melody, she saw Elodie walking towards her anxiously. “Mel, something’s happened!”
What’s wrong?”
During the law school exam today, Landon not only got into a fight in the exam hall, but he also walked out on the test and left campus! Now the school is oing to discipline him!”
Melody was so shocked that the food container in her hand clattered to the ground. “What did you say?!”
lodie sighed. “It’s not Landon’s fault! That guy was talking trash about my uncle. My uncle’s death has always been a thorn in his side.”
felody froze. “His father passed away?”
Yeah, three years ago, my uncle was the lawyer for a commercial case. He not only lost, but he was also framed for fabricating evidence. He jumped from a uilding because of it. Today is the anniversary of his death, and that guy was running his mouth. No wonder Landon snapped.”
fter hearing the story, Melody turned and ran toward the school gate.
lodie shouted after her, “Mel, you have class soon!”
felody paid no attention and just kept running.
he searched street by street around the university, calling Landon’s friends to ask about the places he usually went, checking each spot one by one, but there vas no sign of him.
is evening fell, Melody was standing on a street corner when she suddenly remembered it was the anniversary of his father’s death. She quickly took out her hone to ask Elodie which cemetery her uncle was buried in.
By the time Melody rushed over, twilight was settling in. In the bleak and desolate cemetery, Landon was standing in front of a gravestone.
de was usually so full of life and confidence, but standing there now, he looked so lonely, as if he were the only person in the world.
leeing that he was safe, the anxiety Melody had been holding in all day finally subsided, and she walked toward him.

“How did you find me here?”
Landon’s voice was hoarse. There was a red gash on his forehead, probably from the fight.
Melody didn’t say a word about her day of frantic worry and searching. She just gave him a gentle smile.
“I have a psychic connection with you. I sensed that you needed your girlfriend to come cheer you up.”
Looking at her face, it seemed like something in Landon’s eyes was melting.
Half an hour later, in a hotel room next to campus.
As if by telepathy, neither of them suggested going back. In the room, Melody quietly disinfected the wound on his forehead, not asking about what had happened that day.
“There, all done. Good thing you didn’t ruin your pretty face.” She said, half-joking.
Landon managed a weak smile for her, but he couldn’t hide the sadness in his eyes.
After a moment, he began to speak slowly. “For the past few years, I’ve always dreaded this day. He jumped with his name disgraced, and my mom killed herself with pills. It made me feel like no matter how many people are around, I’m actually all alone. Everyone leaves.”
Melody hugged him. “I will never leave you.”
Landon looked at her, a sarcastic smile tugging at his lips.
‘Never?” He said, feigning indifference. “My mom also said she’d never leave me, but she still abandoned me and killed herself. Before she did it, she was in the middle of knitting me a sweater. Every winter, she would make me one by hand. That year, she didn’t even finish it before she was gone.”
Seeing Landon like this, Melody desperately wanted to comfort him with all the love she had. She didn’t know where the courage came from, but she decisively kissed him.
She said the words like an oath: “I’m not lying to you, Landon. I will take their place and love you forever.”
Landon was stunned for a few seconds, seemingly moved by the sincere passion in her eyes. Stirred, he quickly took control, his hands traveling downwards as the temperature in the room suddenly rose.
He pulled back the last shred of his reason from the haze of passion and asked in a hoarse voice, “No regrets? I’m not a good guy.”
Melody clung to him tightly, proactively unbuttoning his jacket. “No regrets.”
And so the night sank into a deeper darkness.
Late at night, Melody woke up in the crook of his arm. She gently kissed the corner of his lips, then got out of bed and tore the study abroad application form From her pocket into tiny pieces.
‘Landon Crow, I really will stay with you forever.”
