Chapter 2
Elizabeth locked herself in her room.
She didn’t need time to cool off–her heart had already turned to ice the
moment she was reborn.
Everything from her past life had burned away her obsession with Kaiden, leaving not a single ash behind.
Yet, Kaiden still came.
He was clearly prepared, standing at her door with a large bouquet of fresh white roses her favorite flower as a teenager. He remembered that well.
“Eliza…” Kaiden’s voice was low, almost pleading. “Yesterday, I let you down.”
The room remained silent.
Still, Kaiden wasn’t discouraged. He knew the old Elizabeth too well- soft–hearted, sentimental, especially when it came to him.
He kept speaking in that gentle tone, “I know you’re angry–angry that I left you for Tasha. But her situation was urgent. After all… she’s your sister too, isn’t she?
“Ever since we were six, when you wore that pink dress chasing
butterflies in the garden and fell right into my arms, I knew you were the one. For the past 20 years, my feelings have never changed. I could never marry anyone but you.”

“Remember when you were 12, delirious with a high fever, not recognizing anyone but me? You wouldn’t let go of my hand, so I stayed by your side for three days and nights, eventually falling asleep at your bedside… When I woke up, you were wiping drool from my mouth.”
He let out a soft laugh, the sound thick with nostalgia.
“And when you were 15, you said you wanted to watch the sunrise from the mountain. I snuck you out at three in the morning, but we got lost, freezing in the dark, and never saw the sunrise. You were so upset you cried the whole way down, so I carried you on my back, singing to you all
the way..
Inside, Elizabeth leaned against the cold door. Those sweet memories- she had replayed them countless times in her past life.
But what did it matter now?
This book had been added on your bookshelf.
Kaiden had been secretly ivoryou witi Natasha for years, and Natasha was already pregnant!
Kaiden was still outside, pouring his heart out.
“Eliza, I know I messed up. I hurt you. I promise, I’ll never do it again! I’ll spend my whole life proving that you’re everything to me. Without you, I can’t go on!”
His voice was thick with pain and desperation.
Elizabeth took a deep breath and opened the door, her face expressionless.
Kaiden’s eyes lit up, but she didn’t take the flowers.

Kaiden’s face went pale. He hurriedly tugged his collar higher.
For the next few days, he tried frantically to make it up to her.

Expensive jewelry, rare flowers, out–of–print art books she’d once mentioned as a girl–everything kept arriving at the Stenson’s residence, piling up outside Elizabeth’s closed door.
A few days later, when Kaiden showed up with yet another gift, Elizabeth finally opened her door.
There was no trace of a smile on her face, but for Kaiden, that alone was a miracle.
“Kaiden,” Elizabeth said, her voice calm and even, stopping him from getting any closer.
“You say you could never marry anyone but me?”
“Yes, absolutely,” Kaiden swore, his eyes burning with hope.
“Alright,” Elizabeth looked him in the eye, her words clear and deliberate, “I’ll consider going through with the engagement.
A tidal wave of joy nearly swept him away.
He knew it—she couldn’t let him go.
“But,” Elizabeth’s tone shifted, “I have one condition.”
