Chapter 9
Viktor took away Elizabeth’s body.
Kaiden stood inside the Stenson’s residence, clutching the urn Viktor had given him with a death grip.
“She has already been cremated,” Viktor’s voice seemed tinged with exhaustion. “I had someone do her makeup and dress her in her favorite gown.”
Kaiden’s knuckles turned white, as if he was about to crush the small urn in his hands.
He refused to believe it, refused to believe she was truly gone. He could not accept that the light, weightless ashes in the box were once the vibrant Elizabeth.
“…Why wouldn’t you let me see her one last time?” His eyes were bloodshot, his voice hoarse to the extreme.
But Viktor’s gaze was colder than ever before, no longer the gentle look he had shown Kaiden since childhood.
“Kaiden, think about the despicable things you’ve done. Do you really deserve it?”
Kaiden’s breath caught in his throat.
“You took her blood with your own hands, drove her to despair yourself, and now you pretend to be heartbroken?” Viktor let out a cold laugh. “This urn of ashes is the last shred of dignity I give you, only because she once loved you.”

was true.
He slowly sank to his knees, a stifled, desperate whimper escaping his throat.

He had once believed that Elizabeth would always wait for him. But now, even in death, she refused to leave him with a complete ending.
At last, on a rainy night just like the one when they first met, Kaiden slowly stood up, holding the urn of ashes, and left without looking back.
Afterwards, Kaiden became withdrawn and silent. There was no warmth left in his eyes, only a dead, obsessive persistence.
He placed the ashes from the urn into a small silver pendant, wearing it around his neck day and night.

He refused to believe she was dead, but if this truly was her last trace, he would never let go.
Natasha hated that necklace, and she hated Elizabeth too, from the very first day she returned to the Stenson’s residence,
She was the real daughter of the Stenson family, once lost and now returned, and should have been showered with love. Yet throughout the Stenson family, from her father to the servants, their eyes were always on Elizabeth, the impostor who had been raised as their daughter for twenty years.
Elizabeth was gentle, elegant, and talented–even a proud man like Kaiden had once cherished her dearly. And Natasha? She tried everything to please everyone, but could never escape Elizabeth’s shadow.
She envied Elizabeth’s composure, envied how naturally she was loved,

but most of all, she envied the way Kaiden looked at Elizabeth.
Even after Natasha managed to win Kaiden over, even after he neglected Elizabeth for her and even took Elizabeth’s cardiac blood with his own hands, there was always a place deep in his eyes that Natasha could never reach. That place belonged to Elizabeth.
So, after Elizabeth’s death, Kaiden’s obsession and madness completely ignited Natasha’s hatred.
Even in death, she still monopolized his heart!
She told him countless times that Elizabeth was already dead, that he should move on, but Kaiden still refused to believe it.
Even though Viktor had personally handed him the urn, even though everyone said she had been cremated and buried, he still did not believe it.
He slept holding the urn, as if clinging to the last bit of warmth; every day he knelt at the gates of the Stenson’s residence, begging Viktor to give Elizabeth back, even if it meant being scolded and driven away; he even went mad enough to dig up the Stenson family’s ancestral tomb, just to confirm whether there was really a body in her coffin.
Everyone said he had gone mad.
But only he knew that someone as proud as Elizabeth could never be content to die so quietly.
If she hated him, she should have stayed alive to hate him! How could she… not even bother to take revenge?
During these days of being neglected, Natasha gradually lost her mind.
So, she carefully planned a trip to clear her mind.
