Chapter 11
Lily’s onboarding went smoothly. Her strong work ethic and approachable nature helped her quickly integrate into the Lee Group’s design
department.
Yet Lily fiddled with the flowers on her desk and sighed.
A colleague nearby leaned over. “Flowers again? If someone sent me daily bouquets, I certainly wouldn’t sigh.”
Lily handed her two roses. “Hope you find someone soon too.”
Her concern wasn’t the flowers themselves, but that they came from Benjamin–her supervisor. This dual relationship troubled her.
Romance was the last thing on her mind after Victor, and she feared workplace gossip if their connection became known.
“Lily, would you like to have dinner with me tonight?” Benjamin’s message popped up.
She always declined before. But this time, Lily deleted her refusal and typed “Okay.”
He replied instantly. She could practically see his excitement through the
screen.
“I’ll book the restaurant. How about Italian dishes?”
“Fine.”
Lily agreed to finally clarify things.

At the restaurant, Benjamin waited early. A waiter seated her as he offered fresh flowers. “Saw you giving away roses today. Didn’t like them?”
Lily inhaled the jasmine bouquet’s fragrance. “The flowers were lovely.”
“And the sender?”
She hesitated before answering. “Benjamin, I don’t think we’re a good fit.” .
“I’m serious about you.”
Lily stayed silent. His pursuit had been perfect–daily blooms, thoughtful gifts with heartfelt notes, yet always professional at work. He knew his limits.
Their silence hung heavy, broken only by violin music.
“Let’s eat,” Benjamin finally offered.
Pushing food around her plate, Lily drank heavily instead. A warm buzz
settled in.
Benjamin gently took her glass. “Enough You’ll get drunk.”
Liquid courage loosened her tongue. “I thought I’d forgotten him… so why does it still hurt?”
“What did he do?” Benjamin asked, confused about who the “he” in her words could be.
Mumbling into her glass, Lily confessed: “My fault for clinging so long… but after the amnesia, I let go.”
“Why push me underwater without hearing me out? Why believe her lies?”

As she spoke, Lily revealed the healed but still angry–looking burn scar on her arm.
Benjamin stared at the scar, his eyes widening uncontrollably as trembling fingers ran over Lily’s scar.
From Lily’s fragmented words, Benjamin could piece together the story.
She must’ve met some jerk before, got her heart broken, and that’s why she kept turning down his advances.
His
gaze filled with tenderness, Benjamin lowered his head and kissed Lily’s scar.
“Lily, I’ll make sure you get over him and accept me.”
