Chapter 12
“Miss Sophie, here are the new product design drafts for the group. If they look good, I’ll submit them for signing.”
Sophie took the designs from the girl, flipped through them carelessly, then tossed them aside.
“You think this garbage is worthy of the CEO’s signature?”
Faced with Sophie’s sharp tone, the girl froze in panic.
“Miss Lily finalized these with the team.”
The words poured gasoline on the fire.
Sophie hurled the documents to the floor, scattering papers everywhere.
“Tell Victor Lily’s designs are trash. I’ll lead the redesign personally.”
The girl opened her mouth to speak, but Sophie cut her off: “Deaf or what?
Get out.”
Tears streaming, the girl scrambled to gather the papers before fleeing the office.
“Amanda, what did Miss Sophie say?”
Other colleagues pressed in.
“Miss Sophie rejected everything. She’s making us redesign.”
Seeing Amanda cry, others rushed to comfort her.

Resentment simmered. Sophie had barely warmed her seat, yet every report ended in shouting.
Every design got rejected without explanation.
The department already resented her parachute appointment. This tyranny made them miserable.
“I quit!”
A senior designer slammed her ID badge on the desk.
Seeing the rebellion, other veterans joined in.
“My credentials can land jobs anywhere. Why tolerate this clown show?”
“More temper than talent.”
Oppressed staff flooded HR with resignations.
Baffled by the design department exodus, HR escalated directly to Victor.
“What fresh hell did you unleash now?”
Victor shoved the resignation pile at Sophie
Unused to his scolding, Sophie’s eyes reddened with self–pity.
“I just demanded better work. They’re threatening me with resignations!”
Victor usually ignored Sophie’s antics unless they crossed lines.
But twenty–two resignations? Plummeting jewelry production? Shareholder pressure forced his hand.
“Take a leave. I’ll appoint an interim design director.
You’ll co–manage with him later.”

Victor considered this compromise generous.
Sophie stormed out, slamming the door hard enough to rattle frames.
Victor massaged his temples, the chaos summoning memories of Lily’s
tenure.
Back then, no mass resignations. Designs flew off shelves.
Victor pressed his fingertips harder against his throbbing forehead.
Why suddenly think of Lily?”
Recalling how Sophie had cried herself red–eyed earlier, Victor decided to send her a gift along with a message.
“Sophie, I was wrong today.

I got you a present. How about we have dinner together tonight?”
Sophie smiled smugly at Victor’s text, deliberately waiting before replying.
“Fine then. Since you said so, I’ll reluctantly forgive you.”
Victor took Sophie to dinner that evening, strolling along the riverside afterward.
She clung to his arm, coaxing, “Take me to the amusement park tomorrow?”
He’d never cared for such places, though Lily had dragged him there twice before.
Just as he meant to refuse Sophie, Lily’s silhouette on the carousel flashed through his mind.

Against his better judgment, he nodded and agreed.
