Chapter 20
Victor rushed to New York overnight. He’d just entered Lily’s residential complex when he saw her stepping out.
Victor moved to intercept her, but then spotted Benjamin beside her.
Lily and Benjamin walked hand in hand. Whatever Benjamin said made Lily laugh.
That radiant smile on Lily’s face left Victor momentarily dazed. He
remembered how she used to follow him with that same laughter, but now her smiles belonged to someone else.
Victor didn’t approach. Instead, he watched them from behind the flower bushes, torturing himself as he observed their intimacy.
He trailed them all the way, seeing them enter another building complex and ascend the stairs together.
Victor nearly lost control, itching to charge upstairs and confront them.
Just as he prepared to climb the stairs, he saw Benjamin descend alone and drive off. Only then did Victor regain his composure.
He convinced himself it couldn’t be real–Benjamin’s boyfriend status was surely just Lily’s attempt to provoke him.
This thought reignited Victor’s hope.
Early next morning, Victor dressed carefully, bought a bouquet, and went to Lily’s doorstep.
Lily had just woken when knocking startled her. Assuming it was

Benjamin, she called out while opening the door: “Why so early today?”
Seeing Victor, she instinctively tried to slam the door. But Victor swiftly blocked it, extending the flowers toward her.
Lily ignored the bouquet, She said with icy voice: “How do you know my address? You stalked me!”
Victor ignored her question, pressing on: “Lily, I was wrong before. I’m here to beg your forgiveness—”
Lily had no patience for his words, straining to force the door shut
Yet Victor’s strength prevailed, the door gradually opening wider instead.
Suddenly, Benjamin emerged from the elevator. Spotting Victor at Lily’s door, he strode forward, pulled Victor aside, and shielded Lily behind him.
“Victor! What are you doing to Lily?”
Victor disregarded Benjamin, continuing his earnest declaration to Lily:
“Lily, I broke up with Sophie.”
“My past mistakes haunt me, but now I see clearly. I’ve found my truth.”
“You don’t need Benjamin to provoke me anymore.”
Lily couldn’t fathom his shamelessness:
“Victor, I’m with Benjamin because he’s wonderful. I love him. This has nothing to do with you.”
“I’ve made myself crystal clear–we’re done,”
Victor stubbornly recounted how Lily once pursued him.

Lily finally snapped, cutting him off: “Victor, I’ve forgotten everything. Just let me go.”
Victor froze, his voice trembling: “Lily… forgotten what?”
“When you left me for Sophie, I got into a car accident. I lost my memory. I forgot everything about you.”
Victor could hardly believe it. Other than those seven years, he had nothing left that could tie Lily to him.
“Didn’t you always hate me following you around?
Isn’t this better now?
I’ve forgotten you, so you’ll never have to feel bothered again.”
“No, Lily, I–I didn’t, I… I like you…”
Victor stammered in panic.
Seeing Lily finish speaking, Benjamin stepped forward and shoved Victor aside, who was still drowning in his pain
“Victor, Lily has made herself very clear. Please don’t bother my girlfriend again, or next time I’ll just call the police.”
With that, Benjamin shut the door, leaving Victor standing outside, lost and desolate.
