At 10:00 p.m., the police station was still brightly lit, and the on–duty officers were still busy.
Ronan, who should have been off work long ago, sat alone in his office, smoking sullenly. The ashtray on his desk already held over twenty cigarette butts.
The room was so filled with smoke that it looked less like a police station and more like a celestial furnace.
For some reason, the later it got, the more uneasy Ronan felt.
He had a feeling that something would go wrong with releasing Edgar tonight.
However, everything was already arranged. What could possibly go wrong?
Therefore, to be safe, Ronan insisted on staying in his office to oversee the situation.
Half an hour later, someone knocked on the office door. Deacon, the police captain’s nephew, pushed the door
open and walked in.
“Uncle, how much have you been smoking?” Deacon choked and coughed as he walked in, hurrying to the window to air out the room.
Ignoring everything else, Ronan eagerly asked, “How did it go? Did we get him out safely?”
Standing by the window, Deacon took a deep breath of fresh air and nodded. “He’s gone. I personally watched the car picking up Edgar drive away safely before I returned.”
“Don’t worry, Uncle. You know what they’re capable of. It’s easy for them to protect someone.”
Deacon was dismissive, thinking that the older Ronan got, the more timid he became.
Ronan was not as optimistic as Deacon. He said, “That’s true, but their last few deals were all foiled by Ashton’s
men…”
It was not just the deals they foiled. Their informants also kept disappearing without a trace.
Without a doubt, Ashton was behind this.
Ronan finally understood. Even though Ashton had lost his influence, he was still a formidable figure. As long as he had people in the department, it would be impossible to drive him out of Shoneport.
Deacon was unconcerned. “Uncle, our previous failures were accidents. Who would have thought Ashton would be so ruthless as to kill them directly?”
And yet, they had no evidence that Ashton and his men committed the murders.
The two of them plotted in the office, completely unaware of a listening device with a blinking red light under the corner of Ronan’s desk.

Their entire conversation was being listened to, word for word.
At Shoneport’s Royal Foot Spa Club.
Third floor, in a VIP room.

While enjoying a massage from a beautiful masseuse, Briar and Ashton listened to the conversation between Ronan and his nephew through headphones.
The Royal Foot Spa Club wasn’t Ashton’s business. Hamish had opened it on a whim, so the people here were on their side.
The two of them were not particularly discreet in front of the beautiful masseuse.
“Darling, do you think Ronan would be furious if he found out we were eavesdropping on their entire conversation?” Briar asked with a smile.
Ashton rested his head on his clasped hands. “They probably will be. After all, they spent a long time planning this. They watched their men take Edgar away, only for him to fall back into our hands.”
“Hmph! It serves them right. They could have picked a fight with anyone, but they just had to oppose us,” Briar said, growing more smug as she spoke, to the point where even her toes were wiggling with delight.
It was clear just how wonderful her mood was.
Briar and Ashton chatted as if no one else was there, completely ignoring the two masseuses in the private
room.
They even secretly plotted how to make a surprise return to the police station that night to demand the person’s release.
The two masseuses kept their heads down quietly the entire time, appearing professional by not listening or watching.
But once the massage was over and the two masseuses had left, the previously talkative Briar abruptly stopped. “Ashton, how long do you think it will take for Ronan to find out his office is bugged?”
Ashton smiled as he poured Briar a glass of water. “If those two are sharp enough, they’ll get the message to Ronan within ten minutes.”
“Let’s hope they’re sharp enough not to keep us waiting too long.” Briar drank the water from the glass Ashton was holding.
They chose to kill time with massages at the Royal Foot Bath Club precisely because Hamish had discovered that their enemies had moles working there.
So, Briar and Ashton decided to play along and muddy the waters in Shoneport even more.
A moment later, the door to the private room was pushed open, and Hamish and Reece walked in smiling.
“Are you done?” Hamish asked.

He and Reece were in the private room next door. He deliberately waited until now to come over with Reece, afraid his presence would interfere with the two masseuses‘ “eavesdropping”
“We’ve said and revealed everything we needed to. I hope they pass the message on quickly,” Briar said with a
shrug.
Hamish chuckled. “Our men are still tailing the car that picked up Edgar. Any guesses where they are now?”
Recce sat down in a nearby massage chair, laughing and shaking his leg. “Go on, guess! I can barely contain my laughter.”
Briar glanced at Ashton, who held up his hands. “Don’t look at me. I haven’t heard from Brandon yet, so I don’t know either.”
“However, I’m guessing they’re following the ‘the more dangerous, the safer‘ principle.”
Briar nodded. “I agree. Shoneport is a big city, but there are few places they can hide from us, and even fewer that are considered ‘dangerous yet safe…”
Then, as Hamish and Reece watched with anticipation, she…
“The only places they’d feel safe right now would be Len’s villa or the deserted mountain pass in the suburbs, right?”
“Holy crap! See? I told you we can’t hide anything from her.” Reece stopped bouncing his leg.
Hamish also seemed resigned. “Briar, if you’re this smart, how are we supposed to have any fun?”
Briar said, “You asked me to guess, and now you’re blaming me for being too smart when I’m right?”
“It’s just that you being so smart puts a lot of pressure on us,” said Hamish.
Reece played a surveillance video from his men. “Here, you were right. After they picked up Edgar, they split into two cars to throw us off.”
“One car headed toward Len’s villa, but Edgar wasn’t inside. The other car went toward the deserted mountain pass.”
Looking mysterious, Hamish added, “Briar, care to guess who was in the car heading to Len’s place?”
Briar raised an eyebrow. She felt Hamish had the mischievous look of someone enjoying the drama, and her heart skipped a beat.
She muttered, “Surely the person in this car isn’t Tristan?”
Little did she know, her casual remark left the three people present stunned.
One of them blurted out, “How did you know Tristan was back in the country?”
