When the gunshots rang out, Emily and Beatrice, who were not far from the villa, were so terrified that they crouched behind the bushes, not daring to peek out.
Emily didn’t want to admit it, but she had to concede that the mercenaries Beatrice had found this time were much better than the useless bodyguards from her own family.
At least they had the guts to draw their guns on Ashton and Briar.
However, her bodyguards fled in fear when Ashton told them to get lost. How embarrassing.
Beatrice clearly thought the same. She felt that standing next to Emily gave her an overwhelmingly powerful
presence.
Once her men captured Ashton and killed Briar, she bet she would be credited with great merit.
Perhaps she could even use this opportunity to surpass Edgar’s influence and become a key partner connecting the Jennings Group with those important figures.
But as usual, the more beautiful the fantasy, the crueler the reality.
After waiting for half an hour with no sign of the four mercenaries, Emily and Beatrice finally realized that something was wrong.
Since Emily had trouble walking, she said to Beatrice, “Your men have been gone for a long time. Go check on them in the dark. I hope nothing has gone wrong.”
Beatrice’s face was pale. “I… I don’t dare to go.”
So much time had passed since the gunshots. Even if those four mercenaries were injured, they should have crawled back by now. But none of them returned.
It could only mean that those four men had most likely been killed by Ashton and Briar.
If she went to check on the situation now, she would walk right into a trap to her death. She wasn’t stupid.
Emily scoffed. “What? Are you scared? Where’s that stuck–up attitude from earlier? Coward!”
She would rather be called a coward than fall for Emily’s provocation.
Just then, someone walked quickly towards them.
Emily and Beatrice both stepped back, cautiously watching the approaching figure. They froze when they got a clear look at the person’s face.
It was her sister’s ex–boyfriend, the man who had previously led them into the villa complex.
He walked right up to the two women hiding in the bushes. Seeing their tense, wary expressions, he spread his hands. “You don’t have to be so on guard. I didn’t want to come find you in the middle of the night either.

I’m just here on someone else’s errand. Here. This is a photo Mr. Wade sent me, told me to show it to you?
As he spoke, the man held his phone up to Emily and Beatrice. Fearing they wouldn’t see it in the dark, he thoughtfully zoomed in on the photo from Ashton.
Then, two ear–piercing screams tore through the night.
The man endured the piercing screams with a triumphant smirk on his face.
He thought, You used and threatened me, and now Ashton is after me. I can’t be the only one traumatized by a bloody murder scene. This is what you get for provoking Ashton instead of staying home and sleeping at night. Serve you right.‘
Beatrice, evil as she might be, had never done worse than hire a killer. And that had even failed. This was the first time she had ever seen such a bloody, gruesome scene, and she couldn’t stop dry–heaving.
Tears streamed down her face, and it was unclear if it was from fear or from the nausea.
Emily was faring no better. Although she had guessed that the four mercenaries were dead, she never imagined their deaths would be so gruesome and bloody.
The four men were supposedly elite international mercenaries, yet they were killed by Ashton and Briar.
They were all killed by headshots. It was absolutely terrifying.
Fighting back nausea, Emily forcefully turned her wheelchair, desperate to leave.
She had just turned her wheelchair around when someone grabbed it. “Hey, don’t go. I haven’t delivered the message Ashton asked me to.”
A bad feeling washed over her. Emily closed her eyes and asked in a trembling voice, “What did he want you to tell me?”
The man cheerfully pocketed his phone, ignoring Beatrice, who was still covering her mouth and trying not to throw up, and recited, “Mr. Wade said, “Tell those two outside. If they don’t want to end up like the four inside, they’d better get in here and take the bodies away.”
Emily and Beatrice were at a complete loss for words.
Ashton actually wanted them to collect the bodies.
The sight of the photos alone had left them weak–kneed and vomiting uncontrollably. And now he expected them to move the bodies.
Not to mention they were just two women, with no way to carry four full–grown men’s bodies.
Emily was still disabled, so the job of hauling four corpses would fall entirely on Beatrice.
Just thinking about the scene made Beatrice wish she could faint on the spot.
How on earth had she thought she could bring four international mercenaries and kill Briar tonight?

Ignoring their resistance, the man grabbed Beatrice with one hand, pushed Emily’s wheelchair with the other. and dragged them to the entrance of Ashton’s villa.
As if expecting them, the closed courtyard gate slowly swung open the moment they arrived at the villa’s
entrance.
That wasn’t even the most terrifying part.
The most horrifying part was what they saw as the gate slowly opened. Under a streetlight, a corpse with a bloody, mangled head lay slumped against the courtyard wall.
Maybe their eyesight was just too good. They could even see a pool of bright red blood under the corpse’s head, gathering into a sinister, horrifying river…
The scene was nothing short of nightmarish.
The sight of one corpse was terrifying enough, yet Ashton wanted Emily and Beatrice to move all four bodies. Emily was already considering whether pretending to faint right now and getting thrown out by Ashton would be a viable option.
Beatrice wanted to faint even more than Emily did. She knew that she would have to move all four bodies by herself.
She had wanted to ask the man who dragged them there for help, but he ran off without looking back as soon as he brought them, as if his mission were complete.
He ran so fast that not even a dog could catch him.
“Beatrice, you know… my leg is broken. I can’t move the bodies…” Emily said with a trembling voice, pushing a frozen Beatrice toward the courtyard.
Beatrice grabbed Emily’s hand. “It’s fine. I’ll move them, and you can carry them… We can divide the work and cooperate…”
There was no way she was going to move the bodies alone. She would not let Emily get away, no matter what.
She might be able–bodied, but Emily’s wheelchair was too useful to lose.
“What?” Emily immediately understood what Beatrice meant, terror flashing across her face as she frantically tried to back away. “No way! I am not helping you carry the corpses! Let go of me!”
But Emily was confined to a wheelchair. She couldn’t break free from the able–bodied Beatrice.
Beatrice then forced her into the courtyard in her wheelchair, stopping in front of the first corpse…
