Chapter 352
The subordinates looked at each other in confusion. Finally, one of them reacted quickly and clapped his hands in realization. “Oh, I remember now. A Rolls–Royce went in half an hour ago.”
After speaking, he added dismissively, “Boss, it’s just a Rolls–Royce! What’s so special about it?”
It didn’t look like an expensive car.
The head of security shook his head in despair. He turned to leave with his hands behind his back.
He thought, ‘With such a group of foolish and incompetent subordinates, it is no wonder they work hard every day but still earn so little by the end of the year‘
“Boss? Please don’t go! You haven’t told us why yet!” said a guard.
The subordinates were dumbfounded and thought, ‘Why is the boss giving us that exasperated look of disappointment again?‘
One of them said, “The boss overthinks things. He’s always dreaming of getting promoted and rich, but we’re security guards. This is a dead–end job for coasting until retirement. What promotion? What riches?”
The head of security was speechless.

“Mr. Wade, Mrs. Wade, this way, please.”
As Ashton’s signature car pulled up to a pink villa, two men in black suits immediately approached to open the car doors for them.
They looked like bodyguards with respectful tones and precise movements.
However, with a glance, Briar could tell they had military backgrounds.
They were likely elite soldiers.
It made sense. To be Gideon McInnes’s bodyguards, they had to be the best of the best.
Brandon and the other two didn’t go inside. Instead, they stood guard outside with the other bodyguards.
However, Ian, who could never stay still, went around pestering the bodyguards one by one, much to their
annoyance.
If the bodyguards hadn’t known he was with Briar, they would have ganged up on them long ago.
Ian was so annoying.
They thought, ‘Is that what an instructor from the DDC Vanguard Mercenary Special Operations Base looks like? So carefree?

‘If this guy ever kicks the bucket, it will be because his big mouth got him secretly buried alive.

Brandon and Connor, who had long experienced lan’s big mouth, crossed their arms and watched the show when they saw him bothering someone else.
“Finally, someone else can share our pain,” Brandon said cheerfully to Connor.
Connor nodded. “Yeah, Mrs. Wade is so cool and quiet. How come her friends are all such chatterboxes?”
Ian’s big mouth was one thing, but Briar’s hacker friends were also quite a handful.
Brandon shrugged and said, “Who knows? Maybe opposites attract.”
In contrast to the lively and comical scene outside, the atmosphere inside the villa was rather somber.
Ashton and Gideon had a long staring at each other contest, which Gideon ultimately lost. He then broke into a smile at Briar, who was standing quietly beside Ashton.
“Briar, please have a seat. Don’t just stand there,” said Gideon.
A little reserved, Briar pulled Ashton down to sit with her. “Alright. Thank you, Mr. McInnes.”
Upon hearing Briar call him “Mr. McInnes,” Gideon shot another glare at Ashton. He thought, ‘Ashton, the brat, also referred to me as “Mr. McInnes” when talking about me with Briar in private?‘
“We’re a bit early. The doctor is still inside giving your mother a check–up,” Gideon explained.
Briar nodded in understanding. “I see.”
The more awkward a topic was brought up, the more embarrassing it ended.
Both sides tried to find something to talk about, but every topic fizzled out after a couple of sentences.
Finally, Briar couldn’t stand the awkward conversation anymore. She gave Ashton’s palm a hard pinch, signaling him to speak.
Ashton received a hint from Briar. Without a change in his expression, he closed his palm to hide the red mark, saying, “Mr. McInnes…”
“You brat, what are you supposed to call me?” Gideon’s tone toward Ashton was nowhere near as gentle as when he spoke to Briar.
When he heard Ashton call him Mr. McInnes again, he was so upset he wanted to smack him on the head.
He figured it was because Ashton wasn’t setting a good example that his wife was copying him by calling him
Mr. McInnes.
“What’s wrong
with calling you Mr. McInnes? You’re the current leader of Dasmieca, so it’s correct to address you as Mr. McInnes, right? said Ashton.
Ashton wasn’t afraid of Gideon getting upset.

Gideon was the one who had sent Ashton away. Now he wanted to take Ashton back. Words alone weren’t going to cut it.
Besides, Ashton was married. If they wanted Briar to change her form of address, he wouldn’t agree without a gift worth millions or even tens of millions of dollars.
Gideon didn’t know what Ashton was scheming. Upon hearing his provocative tone, he was at a loss for a rebuttal.
Fortunately, the team of doctors examining Chauntae came downstairs at that moment.
The leader was the vice director of General Hospital in Shoneport. He was a senior man with grey hair. He walked over to Gideon and bowed slightly.
He said, “Mr. McInnes, we have completed Mrs. McInnes’s examination. Her condition is the same as her last check–up, with no significant changes.”
Gideon nodded and said, “Thank you for your hard work. Someone will see you out.”
The vice director nodded and left with his medical team.
Before leaving, the vice director stole a glance at Ashton and Briar, who were sitting on the sofa opposite Gideon.
He thought, ‘So… Is the rumor true? Is Ashton Mr. McInnes’s long–lost son?
‘My goodness!
‘Having stumbled upon such an important secret, would we be forced to sign a confidentiality agreement in
the car?‘
The vice director looked back at the increasingly uneasy members of his team and issued a stern warning in a low voice.
“Whatever you saw or thought, forget it all the moment you step out this door. Is that clear?”
After the vice director’s warning and the sight of sharp–eyed bodyguards in the courtyard, the team members who had been secretly ecstatic with selfish intentions were scared into silence.
They thought, ‘We almost… made a huge mistake.‘
“Mr. McInnes, may I go and see Mrs. McInnes?” Briar asked after the others had left, thinking for a moment before she spoke.
Gideon answered without hesitation, “Yes. If you have a way, try to save her. After all these years, her body can’t hold on much longer.”
Saying Chauntae had gone mad was just a euphemism.
In reality, Chauntae’s life was on a countdown.

If no suitable solution was found, she would die in agony.
Briar nodded but made no promises.
Briar couldn’t promise anything without seeing the patient’s condition first.
Even though she had prepared herself, Briar was still profoundly shocked when she saw the skinny woman lying on the bed.
It would be more accurate to say Chauntae had collapsed on the bed, rather than simply lying there.
The woman was horrifyingly thin, far beyond what Briar had imagined.
