Chapter 353
Briar sighed. She didn’t even need to check Chauntae’s pulse. Just by looking at her face, she knew Chauntae didn’t have much time left.
Even as a miracle doctor, Briar found it hard to know where to begin with a patient so emaciated.
More accurately, she was afraid even to try.
If her body was this ravaged on the outside, Briar could only imagine how severe the damage to her internal organs must be.
“Briar, do you think there’s any hope for a cure?” Gideon asked, his voice dropping when Briar remained
silent.
He already knew the answer, but he couldn’t help hoping for a miracle.
Briar snapped out of her thoughts. Instead of answering immediately, she looked at Ashton, who gave her an encouraging glance.
“Mr. McInnes, I’ll do my best,” Briar said. “Most medicines are no longer effective in Mrs. McInnes’s condition. I’ll try acupuncture. As for the outcome, it’s hard to say.”
Gideon nodded repeatedly. “Good, good. Acupuncture is a great idea!”
Gideon was not completely unaware of Briar. In fact, shortly after Ashton and Briar first met, a file detailing her background and life story had landed on his desk.
Therefore, Gideon knew far more about Briar than Ashton did.
Gideon knew Briar had mastered the incredible Golden 81 Needles acupuncture technique.
It was said that Briar could easily extend their life by a few years as long as a patient wasn’t terminally ill.
So, when he heard Ashton was bringing Briar to the nursing home to see Chauntae, Gideon canceled all his morning appointments and arrived early to wait for them.
Without another word, Briar went into a small adjacent room, carefully sanitized her hands, walked to the bedside, and took out her small acupuncture kit.
When the glittering Golden 81 Needles were unrolled, Gideon’s eyes lit up.
Even Ashton held his breath.
Briar’s acupuncture technique was precise and swift. Her fluid, graceful movements were thrilling to watch.
If the woman on the bed hadn’t been the person Ashton and Gideon cared about most, the acupuncture session would have been a visual delight.
As the golden needles were inserted into Chauntae’s body one by one, Ashton and Gideon wondered if it was

just their imagination
To their surprise, they noticed that Chaunted’s once pale and finless face seemed to be growing romer
Even her half–closed eyelids had opened a little wider.
“Is… Is it already working? Gideon only dared to ask after Briar placed the final golden needle.
The excitement in his voice made him lose all his usual composure.
He couldn’t be blamed for his excitement.
For years, Gideon had brought in numerous medical teams who tried every method possible, but they could only keep Chauntae’s condition stable,
Achieving any better results had been impossible.
However, with visible results after the first acupuncture treatment from Briar, how could Gideon not be
thrilled?
Briar patiently explained to Gideon, “Mrs. McInnes’s body is extremely fragile. Instinctively, many of her internal systems have entered a self–preservation state.”
“Since this is the first session, the effects should be quite noticeable and immediate. However, the outcome will depend on how Mrs. McInnes’s body responds.”
Gideon nodded and said, “How long will this session take?”
Briar replied, “Since this is the first session and her body is so weak, the treatment shouldn’t be long. Let’s start with fifteen minutes and see how she responds.”
Gideon had no objections. Like a child waiting for a miracle, he sat by the bed and stared unblinkingly at Chauntae, whose body was covered in golden needles.
Ashton walked over to Briar and placed a hand on her shoulder. The warmth of his large palm conveyed his silent gratitude.
Briar shook her head at Ashton, signaling that thanks were unnecessary. Chauntae was his birth mother, which made her Briar’s future family as well.
If her Golden 81 Needles could save Chauntae, she would never stand idly by.
Briar had lost her mother and couldn’t let Ashton experience the pain of losing his mother.
Some sorrows, if possible, were best never experienced firsthand, for the pain was too great.
The room fell silent, leaving only the sound of the air conditioner.
The wait was long.
The fifteen–minute wait felt like a countdown of the century..

When fifteen minutes were up, Gideon immediately got off the bed and stood aside, leaving space by the bedside for Briar.
Briar returned to the bedside, pinched the first golden needle, and began to twist it.
As she did so, Chauntae’s eyes flew open, her mouth agape as if in immense pain.
Gideon watched nervously, wanting to ask but daring not to.
Briar explained, “This is to regulate Mrs. McInnes’s blood circulation. Even a strong person’s circulation will slow down after being bedridden for years.”
Gideon nodded. “I see.”
Then, Chauntae’s complexion visibly began to turn rosy, even showing a faint, healthy glow.
Gideon was overjoyed.
It was the first time in many years that he had seen his wife’s health improving.
Another fifteen minutes passed, and Briar began to remove the needles.
“Alright, the results are quite good, but Mrs. McInnes’s constitution is weak. For now, I can only improve her blood circulation to reduce the pain in her internal organs. As for anything else, we must improve her overall health first.”
A thin layer of fine sweat beaded on Briar’s forehead.
Although the entire acupuncture session lasted just half an hour, Briar had expended a great deal of energy and stamina.
Chauntae was drenched in sweat, her clothes soaked through.
The sweat expelled from Chauntae’s body was not its normal clear color but a faint black.
Briar explained, “These are toxins being expelled from her body. Don’t touch her. Let her sweat it out. It’s good for her.”
Gideon immediately froze and watched intently.
He didn’t forget to thank Briar. “Briar, I want to thank you. I know what you want most right now. Don’t worry. As long as you two don’t cause complete chaos in Shoneport, you are free to do as you wish.”
Gideon was a man of power who controlled Dasmieca, and he was also skilled at influencing people.
His words essentially assured Briar that she could do as she pleased.
Briar smiled and replied, “Thank you, Mr. McInnes.”
Concerned, Ashton helped Briar to a sofa to rest and placed a glass of water in her hand.
