“lan, I heard you’ve been living it up since you got back to Dasmiccal” Kameron’s voice was teasing
“No way! Kameron, you know me. I’m the most honest guy there is. I would never fool around lan chuckled.
“Heh! Cut the crap. We’ll be at your hotel in half an hour. How about it? Coming down to welcome Louie?”
Kameron’s words shocked lan, who rushed to the window and cautiously peeked outside.
Then he remembered Kameron had said they were still half an hour away. He stammered, “Kameron, are you serious?”
“Why would I lie to you? Don’t worry, we came to Dasmicca through legal channels. We can’t reach Briar’s phone, so the signal must be blocked. Go and let her know,” Kameron retorted irritably.
Upon sensing a hidden meaning in Kameron’s words, Ian agreed suspiciously. He ran to the private room next door and knocked on the door under the cold gazes of the bodyguards in black.
He whispered Kameron’s words verbatim into Briar’s ear.
After hearing that, Briar raised an eyebrow and asked in confusion, “You’re saying that Louie and Kameron have come to Dasmieca, and they even know where we are right now?”
Ian nodded. “Yeah, from what Kameron said, they came to Dasmieca at someone’s request. Briar, do you think it could be Mr. McInnes…”
Briar’s eyes flashed. “Wait a moment, I’ll ask.”
Then, Briar went to Ashton and whispered something to him. Ashton then pulled Gideon aside.
A moment later, Ashton nodded at Briar.
Briar’s expression was dark with irritation, and she led Ian away.
They were off to “welcome” Kameron and Louie.
In the elevator, Ian, shocked, grabbed Briar and marveled, “Briar, Mr. McInnes’s influence is unfathomable. He even managed to hire both Louie and Kameron! Their appearance fee is much higher than ours combined.”
That was an appearance fee of 30 million dollars!
Not just anyone could afford that.
Briar looked up at the descending elevator numbers, her tone calm as she said, “Mr. McInnes is the leader of Dasmieca. If he doesn’t have influence, who does?”
Ian looked at Briar, hesitant to speak.

Briar noticed lan’s hesitation and said, “If you have something to say, just say it. Why are you looking at me like that?”
lan chuckled. Before the elevator reached the first floor, he said, “Briar, actually, you can use Mr. McInnes’s power to get your revenge.”
Briar was stunned and did not respond.
Just then, the elevator reached the first floor. She stepped out first as the doors opened.
Ian quickly followed her. “Hey, Briar, don’t just go quiet on me. I think it could work. Doing everything yourself is too restrictive.”
Some things had to be handled by officials.
“Ordinary people” like them were too powerless to act.
The slightest disturbance could easily attract unwanted attention.
Just like last time, if Ashton hadn’t been cleaning up their messes, those people would have finished them off.
Although Briar had the skills to handle being watched, they couldn’t keep going like that.
Ian knew that while Briar’s methods seemed merciful for now, he was sure she would eventually go on a killing spree.
By then, even Ashton probably wouldn’t be able to clean up her messes in time.
Briar reached the hotel entrance. She stared at the busy street, her voice unusually low. “Ian, honestly, I wish I didn’t have to use any of you if I had a choice.”
Ian said, “Briar, that’s not fair. How are you using us? This is just business, a clean transaction. Except for Ashton, aren’t the rest of us getting paid to do a job?”
One can’t make a good living those days if one doesn’t have some value to offer.
Briar smiled but said nothing.
Upon seeing that he couldn’t convince Briar, Ian went quiet.
After about ten minutes, a taxi pulled up to the hotel entrance. Two tall, well–built foreign men, Louie and Kameron, swaggered out, each carrying a large black duffel bag.
Ian’s jaw dropped at their high–profile entrance. He quickly looked around. Upon seeing no one was tailing them, he walked up with relief and said, “Louie, Kameron, you didn’t just… fly to Shoneport like this, did you?”
“Why? Is there a problem with us showing up in Shoneport like this?” Kameron tossed his black handbag to Ian to carry. He didn’t know what was inside, but it was so heavy that Ian almost dropped it.

Briar walked up to Louie and whispered, “Louie, why are you here, too?”
Louie smiled at Briar and said, “I had no choice. Mr. McInnes’s offer was so generous that I couldn’t turn it
down.”
Briar was speechless.
How much did he offer?‘ thought Briar.
The four of them walked into the elevator, chatting and laughing. Until the elevator door closed, none of the hotel staff in the first–floor lobby looked up.
A closer look would reveal their standard military posture.
Louie and Kameron followed Briar into the private room. Kameron was the first to step forward and shake Gideon’s hand. “Mr. McInnes, hello! I’m Kameron Beard. Thank you so much for inviting us to visit Dasmieca.”
His fawning demeanor was hypocrisy at its finest.
Louie was speechless.
So was Briar.
Unfazed, Gideon smiled and shook Kameron’s hand. “You’re too kind, Mr. Beard. I invited you to Dasmieca for a single purpose: to protect Ashton and Briar.”
Briar looked up at Gideon in surprise. “Mr. McInnes…”
Gideon raised a hand, cutting Briar off. “Briar, I know what you’re capable of. You’re more than a match for those people. However, Ashton and I haven’t officially acknowledged our relationship as father and son. People could take advantage of that. Do what you need to do, and leave the aftermath for these two to handle.”
Louie nodded. “That’s right, Briar. You focus on your work, and we’ll handle the cleanup. Command us as you wish, because we’ve accepted a 64–million–dollar commission from Mr. McInnes.”
A 64–million–dollar commission?
Briar was stunned. She looked at Ashton, her eyes asking, “Did you know your dad was so extravagant and generous?”
Ashton returned an innocent smile.
‘Whether I knew it or not, they are already hired. Then… Feel free to use Louie and Kameron as we wish,‘ thought Ashton.
And just like that, what started as a simple home–cooked meal escalated into a secret plot for a shocking assassination.
Briar’s initial shock and bewilderment gave way to a smile and calm acceptance.
