As the clock struck seven, Juliette ordered takeout. Just as she finished eating, someone walked
- in.
“Hello, welcome!” Juliette instinctively greeted before looking up at the visitor. Seeing the familiar face, a delighted smile spread across her lips.
“Cassie, you’re here!”
Cassie White was her college roommate. Though they had different majors, they shared a deep. bond. When she was in prison, Cassie was the only one who visited her. Just yesterday, she had told Cassie about her new job, and she hadn’t expected her to come so soon.
“I’m so happy you’re finally out!” Cassie ran up and pulled her into a warm hug. “I originally wanted to pick you up when you were released, but our chief editor sent me out of town to interview a celebrity. It took longer than expected.”
“It’s fine. I understand. I’m really happy for you, Cassie. You’ve built the life you wanted and became a journalist. That’s amazing!” Juliette said admiringly.
I’m not some big–shot journalist, just a lowly paparazzo. The important interviews are always handled by the chief editor.” Cassie waved dismissively, but her eyes held a deep regret as she looked at Juliette.
“That damn Vivienne… If it weren’t for her, you’d be the most successful person among all my friends. Back in school, you were the top student in the medical program! And now…” Cassie glanced around the store, filled with an over–the–top, gaudy atmosphere, and felt furious.
“At least I cut my losses in time. I got to see people’s true colors. Not marrying Gavin is the best thing that ever happened to me,” Juliette sighed. In just three short years, she felt like she had lived a lifetime, gaining so much clarity.
“That scumbag will regret it one day. I’ll be waiting for that moment.”

“Knowing my parents, if I weren’t, would they really have raised me for over 20 years?”
That did make sense. Those two leeches didn’t seem like the type to raise someone else’s child.
“But you shouldn’t have just married some random guy! That’s such a huge loss for you. You’re beautiful and highly educated! What kind of man couldn’t you get?” Cassie said.
“My dear Cassie, 1 didn’t just pick randomly. My new husband is actually quite handsome.”
“Handsome? Handsome like Gavin?” Cassie asked skeptically.
Gavin might be scum, but there was no denying his looks. In all her years of working, Cassie had yet to find a man who could match his godly face, not even among male celebrities.
Juliette had never compared Max and Gavin before. Now that Cassie brought it up, she actually thought about it for the first time.
Max was very tall. probably a few centimeters taller than Gavin. Gavin had an innate authority that made people respect him, but Max carried himself with an effortless composure that could perfectly counter Gavin’s intimidating aura. There was also an air of aristocracy about Max, as if he had been raised in a prestigious family for generations.
“I think Max is on par with him–maybe even a little better,” Juliette concluded after weighing it carefully.
“Whoa!” Cassie’s eyes lit up. Why was her luck so bad? She never seemed to run into any ridiculously handsome men!
“If he’s that handsome, you should just sleep with him! You work in an adult store, so you must know which products sell the best. Use them on him one by one!” Cassie waggled her eyebrows, looking every bit like a mischievous troublemaker.
Juliette burst out laughing. “Enough of that nonsense! Our marriage won’t last. He only married me to deal with his family. We’ll probably be divorced within a few months.”
“Trust me, sleep with him before the divorce. No loss!” Cassie advised again.
The two of them chatted excitedly, and time flew by. Soon, it was time for Juliette to clock out. After saying their goodbyes and making plans to meet again, they parted ways.

Well, Juliette’s face was a sight for sore eyes. Even with worry written all over her features, the falling leaves framed her in such a picturesque way that every moment looked like a scene from a movie.
Max had just finished a call with a business partner. Looking up, he spotted her familiar figure. It was late at night. What was she doing wandering around instead of staying home?
“You go ahead. I’ll walk the rest of the way,” Max said, not wanting her to see what kind of car he was driving. He didn’t want her getting the wrong idea.
“Got it.” Henry drove off.
Juliette had searched high and low, but it was pointless. She had to go back to the Monroe Residence to ask if they had taken Max.
She hurriedly crossed the street.
“Hey!”
A slender wrist was suddenly grabbed by a strong hand. With just a slight pull, Max realized how alarmingly light she was. She was effortlessly pulled into his arms, her nose filling with the cool, distant scent of his cologne.
