Chapter 25 Secretly Helping Her–Have You Fallen For Her?
“Mr. Samuel, you can’t blame Lauren for this. Who would’ve thought that just asking Juliette to make a copy could go so wrong?”
“Exactly. The Executive Office is already looking into it. They’re pushing Juliette to take the fall. That’s what happens when HR dumps a useless person on us.”
Criticisms echoed in Juliette’s ears.
Her hands slowly clenched into fists.
“Mr. Samuel, there’s no point in arguing anymore. There’s still one day until the meeting you mentioned. I’ll reprint the document.”
“And how are you going to do that? Don’t tell me you’ve memorized all the data.” Samuel was embarrassed.
“I have my own method.” Juliette said.
Childish. Overconfident! That was Samuel’s first impression of her.
“Everyone involved in this experiment will be working overtime tonight to redo the data. Juliette, I hope you have some self–awareness. Because of you, everyone’s evening has gone to waste!” Samuel finished and returned to the lab.
“What the hell, my brother’s wedding is today. I guess I’m missing it.”
“Seriously bad luck. I promised my girlfriend I’d celebrate her birthday with her.”
Her colleagues deliberately raised their voices, making sure she could hear every complaint.
Juliette stood up and left her seat. She went to the shredding room and retrieved the fully shredded document from earlier, then headed outside and bought three large bottles of glue.
She had no choice but to take the dumbest approach–piece the documents back together like a jigsaw puzzle.
Two or three hours passed in the same position, and her back started to ache.
But she didn’t dare rest for a second.
There were over twenty pages, and not a single piece of data could be missing.

Time ticked by, and soon it was 7 p.m.
Juliette took a quick break and sent a message to Max.

The Executive Office of Sphere Corporation was located on the 66th floor of the building, decorated in a sleek and understated palette of black, white, and grey.
Bzzt.
His phone buzzed once.
The man’s slender fingers unlocked the screen, and he glanced at the message.
“Something came up at work. I won’t be coming home tonight.”
What a handful. Second day at Sphere, and she’d already made a serious mistake.
Max knew everything that had happened in S Lab.
She had actually shredded a critically important document meant for tomorrow’s meeting.
“What happened? Is everything going smoothly? Did you get scolded?”
With a teasing heart, he sent that message.
“Everything’s going great. Don’t worry.”
So like Juliette.
She always thought she could carry the world on her shoulders–never asking anyone for help.
Seeing that, Max didn’t pry further and went back to his work.
Originally, Sphere was planning to collaborate with Monroe Pharmaceutical to develop a new insomnia drug.
But considering Lucas’s character, Sphere had called off the partnership.
Rumor had it that Monroe Pharmaceutical was getting cozy with the Donovan family- probably trying to get a slice of the pharmaceutical pie. Max had no choice but to accelerate the experiment.
By the time he finished all the documents, it was already 1 a.m.
He took the elevator down, and when he remembered Juliette was still at the office, he pressed

the button for the 13th floor.
His footsteps were light as he approached her office.
The lights weren’t fully on–only a desk lamp illuminated the room.
In the dim glow, Juliette was doing the same dull task over and over again.
She was already getting sleepy.
Her hand propped up her head as she nodded off bit by bit.
Max stood in front of her, and she didn’t even notice.
He held her face gently, lowered her hand, and let her head rest on the desk.
At last, she was sleeping soundly.
He glanced at her progress.

I had underestimated her. Out of twenty–something pages, she had already completed more than half.
As for the rest–well, it wasn’t that I felt sorry for her or wanted to help. I just thought… it had been a while since I played with puzzles. Might as well kill time.
And so, he worked until 4 a.m.
The sound of her steady breathing near his ear was strangely calming.
Once done, Max stretched and walked out of the office.
Caleb had been waiting outside the whole time.
“Go get a bottle of milk and a bread roll. Leave it on Juliette’s desk. And also, look into whether there’s more behind this shredded document incident.”
Juliette took this job very seriously.
There was no way she could’ve made such a rookie mistake.
“Yes, sir,” Caleb replied respectfully.
With that, Max returned to the executive office. There was a resting area inside where he could catch some sleep.

“She actually pulled it off? No way!”
“Mr. Samuel, come check–did Juliette piece the pages together correctly?”
Juliette had fallen into a deep sleep, vaguely hearing voices around her.
But her eyelids wouldn’t budge.
After a while, she heard an older voice.
“The first page is right. So is the second…”
It was Mr. Samuel.
Suddenly, Juliette remembered—there were still a few pages I hadn’t finished piecing together.
Sleep instantly vanished. She opened her eyes and sat up.
“I’m so sorry, Mr. Samuel. I was too tired and accidentally overslept. I’ll get back to it right away!”
Samuel flipped through the stack and said, “At first, I thought you were bluffing. I didn’t expect you’d really do it. All twenty–three pages–every one accounted for.”
What? I finished?
Juliette took the document from him and looked it over.
Was I dreaming? I clearly remembered stopping at page sixteen last night.
“All right, tidy up, eat something, and get back to work. Your punishment will be decided after
I report this to upper management,” Samuel said, then left with the document.
Juliette glanced at the fresh milk and bread roll on her desk, frowning deeply.
Who on earth helped me?
On the 66th floor in the Executive Office, the meeting about the new insomnia drug in S Lab ended successfully.
When Max returned to his office, Jacob was already there.
“Mr. Jacob,” Caleb greeted with a nod.

“Mm.”
“What brings you to my office this morning?” Max adjusted his tie as he sat down.
“Take a look at these photos.” Jacob slid a stack toward him.
With his long fingers, Max flipped through a few–photos of him helping Juliette with the puzzle last night.
“Is there a problem?”
“I’m asking you–have you fallen for her?” Jacob asked seriously, studying his expression.
