Chapter 16
The next day, William found Ethan at a pottery studio.
“We need to talk.”
“Perhaps Emily won’t return to me.
I’ve hurt her too deeply.”
William’s voice thickened with remorse. “But I beg you-let me see her once. There are things I must say.
Just once. That’s all.”
As he finished speaking, Emily walked through the entrance.
Seeing William, she showed no surprise.
“You wanted to talk?
Then let’s talk properly.”
Ethan took Amanda out, leaving them their final moment alone.
“Emily, I’m sorry.”
William spoke slowly.
“Don’t be. I won’t forgive you anyway. You made those years of my devotion feel like a joke.”
Emily replied. “I won’t come back.
Because not everything can be fixed with an apology.”
William’s coffeers glistened.
He froze for a moment, then stood and left.
Passing Ethan, he cast a sideways glance at him.

His piercing gaze remained fixed on Emily.
Perhaps Ethan truly could give her happiness.
Emily and Ethan’s wedding was set for three months later.
On the wedding day, a gentle spring breeze carried warm sunlight.
Clad in a white gown, Emily walked through the flower arch holding blossoms picked by Amanda. Amidst well-wishes, she approached Ethan in his black tuxedo.
Behind the crowd stood a familiar figure.
Emily took a deep breath, lifted her skirt, and walked over.
William’s eyes lingered on the wedding scene behind her, his voice hoarse with longing and regret.
“I mean no harm… I just wanted to wish you happiness.”
“Your wishes are received.”
Emily’s voice remained utterly calm. “Please leave.”
As she turned away, she heard William’s muffled sob behind her.
But when she reentered the celebration, her smile returned effortlessly.
Ethan stood across the way, beaming at her, while Amanda came dashing over, waving her flower basket.
Later, Ethan would occasionally ask, “Any regrets?”
Watching Amanda soar high on the see-saw in the yard, Emily simply shook her head.
“Don’t worry. I’m deeply happy now-with you, with Amanda.
Our future stretches long ahead. I won’t look back anymore.”
The breeze stayed gentle, spring light perfect. Sunlight pierced the clouds, and Emily felt life restarting.
She settled on the swing with Amanda in her lap. With every sway, Ethan gave a scoffeedy push from behind.

The breeze whispered past her ears, lifting her skirt hem.
Against the azure sky, three figures merged-one pushing, one holding, one swinging.
Spring swept away the clouds, leaving boundless clear skies.
Ethan leaned close to her ear, murmuring, “Emily, I love you.”
Emily cupped his ear, drawing near to whisper back, “Ethan, I love you too.”
Amanda suddenly giggled in her arms, shouting loudly, “Amanda loves you too!”
Bathed in spring light, their reflections intertwined-a perfect picture of happiness.
